I run an IT services business and have found my accounting software, though good at accounting is not really keeping up with how I'd like to manage jobs. It has limited project functionality but this quickly shows its limitations.

So I am now looking for job sheet management software but do not need accounting.

In broad terms I have 2 main service offerings:

1. Computer servicing which involves time, software and hardware. Software and hardware products supplied will be accounted fo on the customer's invoice but I need something to manage and provide reports on the job line items. By way of example, a recent job had 12 line items including the following:

- Test HDD

- Test RAM

- Install new HDD

- Install O/S

etc. I want to list these out so customers can see what has been done.

It would be good to have a time tracker but I dont want this to be forced for every job.

2. Monthly service contracts. These are mainly server admin and involve a fixed price per month but I would like to document each rask done so I can send the clients a report at the end of each month.

I am open to cloud or desktop based. I am willing to pay a monthly fee but I don't want something expensive and with a whole lot of complexity which is pitched at corporates. Just an SME product with standard features would be fine.

Give EzPSA a trial. Local development team and its a basic but mature platform and cheap as chips.

I generally like to start my search at alternativeTo.net. You might also want to see if there are any MSP offerings out there that can do your job logging. Most of them will do asset tracking / monitoring / patching; but maybe they have the functionality you are looking for.
