Hi Everyone,

I've started at a new organisztion in an IT Role. They are using WebRoot which is something I have not used. We are fairly well sized (150ish staff) with a good amount of portable devices. Is Webroot up to scratch?

Also, I've been told that we can use WebRoot as an alternative to Domain GPO and to install new software applations network wide. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Webroot is a good AV product. Being able to manage all the machine's via their management portal in the past was a good experience. No, Please do not replace Microsoft AD/DNS/DHCP and GPO services or SCCM with an AV product that can also potentially install 3rd party software for you or manage it.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Ensure your Webroot portal is secured with a decent password and (even more importantly) 2FA.  With that kind of power available in a portal, if it is accessed maliciously, the company is potentially up the creek without a paddle.

I'm not looking to replace AD, etc. I've just been told that WebRoot can replace some of those functions. I am looking for ammution to argue against this.

AD GPO's are native rather than 3rd party, why needlessly complicate things?

Pretty much any IT engineer with a clue understands AD GPO's vs a vastly smaller number of people who are familiar with the 3rd party product.

Agreed with @Lias

AD GPO's are well documented and there is SO much you can do with them, applying to different OU's easily, etc.

In these kinds of vendor pushes I tend to take the tact of what benefit doing it the vendors way offers and weighing that up against the reasons to keep it under the current system. There would have to be a pretty big bonus to Webroot GPO replacement to make me reconsider AD GPO

Even though we have Administrative Templates in Intune now, I still think there's a strong place for AD GPO with Microsoft.
