Hi Team

We are seeing signs that the Ministry of Justice email system may be down.  We are seeing when trying to email justice.govt.nz addresses and pds.govt.nz addresses the following error:

Remote Server returned '550 5.1.10 RESOLVER.ADR.RecipientNotFound; Recipient not found by SMTP address lookup'

Is anybody else seeing this?  Hopefully its not all govt.nz emails!

Mike

Sounds like the username is invalid. Are you sure the address you have is valid

I see an MX record in DNS. I also see this as valid from a couple of external checkers.

The published MX responds to connections on Port 25 (dmzglobal).

I suggest a little more troubleshooting is required...

By the way you realise each agency runs its own mail environment? I doubt a problem with the MoJ would affect any other agency, except perhaps for any specific arrangements they may have to support other agencies.

Ok.. Emailed an address that I know is valid at MoJ (used it yesterday) and it did indeed bounce today.

So a localised problem at MoJ I suspect. Probably not GZ fodder!

I should have mentioned that emailing multiple long term staff gets the same result.  The two different domains are likely to be in the same mail environment, in this particular case.

Our client opted to telephone them, and is waiting on a call back.

Yeah that's the datapoint that would've helped ;-)

I'm reaching out to a colleague I have in MoJ IT but they're no doubt aware of it and working on it by now anyway.

Yes there was/is an outage for MoJ emails (which includes PDS).

Appears to be resolved now.
