So I've obtained a Dell R320 server, its come with 2x SAS 2TB drives.

I'd like to add an additional 4 TB SATA drive if possible - bit of Googling gives me mixed results.

Am I able to mix drive types or this a no-no ?

PERC H310 Integrated RAID Controller installed. (Raid not required for my purposes)

Yes you can normally mix drive types on a RAID card, as long as when using RAID or any sort you do not mix drive types in the same array.  My exeperience around this is with other brands of RAID cards.

I doubt you would have trouble finding a spare SATA drive somewhere.  Give it a try before committing to spending money on a new 4Tb drive.

I have a R710 server with 3 x 1TB SAS drives and 3 x 3TB SATA drives, I have them as two RAID 5 storage pools.
