Ive done fek all searching on this..... being lazy :D

Situation is this :

Systems need to be online 24/7

System updates a file, which is then put on the cloud and downloaded by other systems on the internet.

How can I tell that the updated file was received by the other systems ? There something out there that will alert me of successful/failed updates ? Or will I have to put on my scripting hat.....

Obviously the system itself I can generally monitor via a ping etc.

Unless the cloud sync will notify you of success, I expect you'll either need a utility that monitors the age of the file and alerts if the file is over X hours/days old (or script something similar).

The only cloud sync app I can think of that does reporting of machines not online and syncing is SecuriSync by Intermedia.

Cheers, will take a look.

Got a PS script running now that can check the last modify date and dump it to CSV which could go into a cloud system from there to get back to me.

This stuff is fun.

You could extend that script to check for the age of the file and alert you by email if it is over X hours old.  I'm not any good with Powershell so idk if that is simple or challenging.

If you do that or similar, I recommend a sanity-check email once a day or week that becomes part of a routine to check.  I've been in a situation a while back where a script should be alerting me but a change in the SMTP server broke the communication and I did not know about that until it was a bit late.

Yeah, ideally I want to automate it all so no manual checking required except for sanity checking as you mentioned.  I'll have a chat with a mate who likes to play with a bit of VB stuff, and see if he can whip up a little app for me that sets off alarms :D

Why not out the file in git. Ie system uploading it commits it to git.

You can then use Gits web hooks to notify the other systems of an update.
