Hi,

I am taking over this website http://funnz.org.nz/ and it seriously needs moving to a decent CMS so the members can do updates more easily.

What can you recommend? Silverstripe, Drupal, Joomla, or Wordpress ?

I am leaning towards Silverstripe if only for the NZ connection.

There will be nothing too complicated added, perhaps a photo galley.

Thanks.

i had a good look at these about 2 months ago when redoing reven.co.nz (i even wrote a blog post about it )

i went with wordpress, good plugins (although a lot seem out of date), good templating system (you just need to learn it), really great admin backend.

i was testing drupal out a lot, and nearly went with it, but i had jquery issues with it (v6 using a old version of it), i personally dont like the theming system that much, couldnt really get the performance i wanted out of it (js/css combing/minification etc).

i was put off joomla just because of the slowness of development, v1.5 was in beta about 5 years ago (well seems like 5 years ago), and its only at v1.5 now, so what has changed?

wordpress also has money behind the development and is really polished.

also the blogging system in wordpress is probably the best out there, and they have offical ipad/iphone apps etc.

WebsiteBaker is a pretty small, fairly simple CMS. I've had a bit of a play with with and found it not too bad.

Hi,
I apologise if this post is too late for you, I just thought I would put my thoughts into the mix as well.

Wordpress was conceived as a blogging system so if this type of functionality is high on your list of priorities, then you will not find better.

Joomla, is a good option for several reasons.  One being the amount of third-party extensions available to "plug-in" to a joomla framework.  The quality of some of these extensions is another matter, but this is what you get with open source.  The other reason joomla would make a viable option is the amount of support available via forums  etc.

As a recommendation, I would suggest looking into concrete5.  Nice little CMS that has SEO names, like /aboutus etc as well the best front-end content updating system I have seen for those that are "coding-challanged".

Ditto from me re WordPress if this isn't also a little late.  A common misconception about WordPress is that it's just for sites that require blogs, however it's easy to build static web pages as well.  It's main strength is that it's a solid platform but also it has a massive developer and user community.

I have no idea if it fits the bill, but certainly it looks easy to use: New Zealand made http://www.contegro.com

Wow thanks everyone for the help.

I still haven't made the move because I have the chance for continued free hosting if I use one of the following Kentico or MySourceMatrix (they haven't decided which yet). I guess I'll wait and see if they are acceptable before checking out the options here. Interesting that these options did not come up.
