Pretty much upgraded all our clients to it who are running SBS2003 or SBS2008.
The AV side of it is as good as it's always been and the added SPAM filtering is a bonus.
The spam filtering seems to work pretty well but I prefer to use a service like SMX or Spamdunk to stop the spam before it reaches the client's server.

There is a new version coming any day now, v4.3, that has some new features too.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

We're using GFI here, it's working pretty well.. the feature for us that other solutions seem to be lacking or do worse is the reporting on what was blocked to each individual user so employee's can unblock false positives.

We have it set to email a report summary of what was blocked to each user every couple of hours so users can unblock false positives quickly and effectively via web page ui.  It's not perfect but better than a lot of other ways of handling this I've seen (outlook addin's and the like).

A lot of services and solutions claim low false positive rates but how would you know if they don't report to you what was blocked?  Not just to an admin but to each user individually.

Especially so, if your business is in a media & advertising services type industry there will be false positives. Missing an important email because your spam filter blocked it without you ever knowning really sucks.

What happens when a client's or an ISP's email server appears of several blacklists and all those emails get filtered.. it can and does happen (Vodafone, Telstraclear and Xtra frequently).

To the average person email is a reliable delivery mechanism, even though we geeks know better.

How good/configurable is the reporting to users with SMX?  Their site seems a bit sparse on the actual details of their features eg: screenshots/videos/pricing.... Product/service websites with case studies and free trials without concrete details put me off tbh.

If your anti-spam solution doesn't do reputation based IP blocking (or DHA blocking) than it's only doing a half-arsed job. IIRC neither of these products do that.

Are you after it as a Anti Spam solution or Mail Antivirus solution?

We have found that the Mail Antivirus is very effective, however had mail delivery timeout issues with the AntiSpam filtering so turn that off - We use a stand alone Spam filter (MailMarshal) and leave ESET to filter viruses from Exchange and the server file system.
