Hi There!

I have a client looking for an alternative to 2day for hosting their website which currently has a 1GB Space with unlimited traffic plan. They recently wanted some changes made and because they were on a shared server 2day didn't want to make those changes as they would affect all the other sites. They suggested this client get their own server for $160 a month which to this client seemed a lot.

Anyone able to recommend (a preferably NZ) a hosting company for an ASP Website. Preferably IIS.

A custom dll needs to be allowed as a web extension and a web handling added for *.vrd (with scripts execution allowed).

Been there, done that. When we started Geekzone it was on a shared environemt - we were lucky to go through 25,000 page views in the first six months, we can now easily go through it in a couple of hours.

We too had a couple of DLLs we wanted add (image manipulation ones) and took us a lot of work, testing, etc to convince the hosting provider back then to allow this to happen.

At some point our SQL DB activity started interfering with other domains hosted on the same server and we moved out to our own hardware.

I think with more and more security concerns around hosting providers will be reluctant to install a DLL they know nothing or little about.

Right, so I guess we will need a Virtual Web Server rather than shared, but I still need to find one that is relatively inexpensive.

Remember, once you get to "own" and "administer" your web server, a lot can go wrong.

Backup, update, backup. And make sure the backup/restore works. It's your responsibility from that point. And if you are selling a service (your customers are paying), then backup more.

Don't know if you can call NZ based windows VPS "inexpensive" but they are about about half the price you were quoted for a dedicated server.
