The Government's ultra-fast broadband company, Crown Fibre Holdings, will be renamed Crown Infrastructure Partners, and bring its investment skills and experience to attract private investment to roading and water infrastructure.

Argh, Even with the protections of our commerce commission, having essential infrastructure networks in private ownership is a bad idea... They are most efficiently delivered as a monopoly. While the Commerce Commission will prevent the private companies from monopoly rents, the end result is bound to be bickering between the companies and the commerce commission.

If it is anything like the PPP roads, the private companies won't even be expected to carry any of the major risks (like traffic volume projections). Other than minor benefits like pricing injury and fatal collision into the design, the key benefit seems to be to move debt of the governments balance sheet at much higher cost. (governments can borrow much cheaper than private companies)...

I think Drury is a great place for a new Auckland suburb, but don't think the proposed funding system is efficient.

Is this possibly why neither myself nor any of my colleagues can use their address search tool on their website today?

It says "account has been suspended" but the page has freedom of access - you don't need an account to search....
