Gotta love that privacy protection. I wonder if our government takes it as seriously as the UK one does? On the basis of past performance, I would guess it is about the same. Yet another reason never to willingly let your personal information be added to any database!

Privacy is taken seriously. See GDPR. It doesn't stop human error, though. No matter how big the fines are.

Addresses and phone numbers have rarely been private. They used to appear in annual phone directories!

Only those who chose to engage with the bureaucracy and try and get ex-directory listings were anonymous.

I don't trust any organisation that collects data, government or commercial, and every time I hear how terribly seriously they take my privacy, I just want to throw up.

Thats apalling. I do wonder if the privacy breaches now are more to do with data that is exported from a system and then into a spreadsheet or end up as some sort of MS office which are then never tracked or monitored as to what is done with them and the content they contain. So easy to do now. Decided a few years back to stop using loyalty cards, but its hard to elliminate any risk when everything now is digital.
