This is only a rumour but...
Govt is delaying Section 92 and won't be implemented it this Saturday but on March 27th.

Instead there'll be public submissions until March 6.

Can anyone confirm this?

wooooooohooooo.

lets hope the law gets suspended and a new one is made where copyright holders have to get a court order to cut off someone's internet, instead of only needing to accuse someone without proof.

Great news. We can hope for a considered and carefully thought out solution to this issue.

Democracy at work. The people spoke.

Well done Mr Key.

Yay a step in the right direction. Now all they need to do is make an ammendment against these types of draconian laws. They need to decrease copyrights on music and movies to a maximum of 50 years(or less)! Not 50 years after the creator dies! They then need to say that ISP are not responsible for any content going over their network suplied by other internet users. And that under law they do not have to disconect or police customers just because some group asks them to or takes them to court and wins. And that they can not recieve money or other benefits (bribes) from groups trying to get them to do something. The goverment then needs to allow format shifting, unlimited backups, outlaw drm and similar copy protection.

These anti-p2p for profit cartells are just shocking. They have a monopoly (e.g. Intelectual Property, and copy rights that last for like 100years) and get away with extremely unfair buisness practices like selling games wth hidden code that makes them useless after a year without the person knowing, limiting installs/watches/backups/copyright, installing spyware etc. Music should be cheaper than it is.

Format shifting is ok and their is no reason it should be illegal at all. Take it this way "I go down to a supermarket and buy some meat. I can Unrap it and rap it how ever I like. I can cut it up to peaces. However if that where music raped in (or burned onto a cd) I am not allowed to do anything but listen to the cd.". Their packaging is very bad and it is unfair to expect us to have to use a product thats packaged in a useless way just because we can not repackage it for our own use.

I dont understand.

The new Government hasnt been shy to repeal some of the previous governments stupid laws/decisions yet it has taken extreme pressure to get them to look at Section 92.

All I can deduce from this is that RIANZ or someone in same game has donated heavily to both political parties coffers and want "their" law passed.

Go TCL. I think you may have won some good press.

One problem with the stuff.co.nz article (unsurprising), it unfairly lumps blame onto the previous government.

You're spot on kiwitrc: National have even more interest in passing this law than the previous incumbents because it helps further a trade agreement called the ACTA.

Tizard was not the loony who devised S.92a. S.92a is merely one measure proposed in a 'free' trade agreement.

Woot go TCL!!!

Stick it to the man! Obama has put the FTA on the backburner recently anyhow so perhaps it makes no sense for the Govt to pass such a retarded law atm anyhow.  It might come back up again...oh maybe when the FTA is being discussed again.

To be honest, imo the RIAA and its merry pack of gaylords need to try to shutdown piracy from behind the great firewall of China.  This accounts for more than 50% of all piracy anyhow.
LOL good luck with that.

The force is strong with this one!

Yeah you are probably right about Tizard, she wouldnt know what the internet was let alone be able make laws relating to it.

I worry about the replacement...

S92 is to be rewritten. I thought the best quote was from stuff.co.nz:

"Shift Alt Delete for Internet Copyright law"

ROFL.....

http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/2285139/Shift-alt-delete-for-internet-copyright-law

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
