I have been wondering what purpose the Privacy Commission was serving of late, and have recently received this note from them:

Interestingly their website home page says this so they must be fairly busy:

Hopefully those with enquiries will be able to seek assistance from elsewhere.

So does that mean they will end up getting a lot more complaints and higher rates of offending? I am guessing some of the enquires actually saved them time and stopped people making false complaints. Doesn't seem customer / public focused IMO. They could have an AI chatbot to answer questions I guess if it was really good as Chat GPT can probably answer many such questions pretty well.

Goodness knows, they have become slow in responding to comms of late, so I presume they are understaffed. I suspect the MMH event has made this worse.

If this were Reddit, people would be blaming the current government for cuts, but the reality is this is nothing new. The Human Right's Commission took almost seven months to respond, poorly, to a simple query I sent to them in August 2024.

If you contact some you are lucky to get any reply at all. MBIE you have to chase them up to get a reply from my experience. Some private companies operating in NZ are now getting as bad.
