NZ has gotten the international version of the last three models. The international version is generally the better hardware. I don't see this year being any different.

networkn: Couple of questions etc:

1) What variant CPU will be the International (NZ) one?
2) Anyone know who has a downloadable version of the annoucement? I missed it.

Glad to see the physical size hasn't changed I might be able to get this after all.

Is it AMOLED after all?

1) see my post above, vodafone pretty much confirmed they will have the Octa.
3) Yes its AMOLED Pentile Full HD

Am I the only one who read the press release as "bloat bloat gimmick bloat"? Sure, the phone isn't exactly resource-constrained but all of those extras must have at least some impact.

Personally, I was hoping to see a more design evolution. All of Samsung's recent phones/phablets look the same, just in different sizes. I'm not saying the design is bad, just that it's getting quite boring.

I'm glad it'll be a few months before I'm in a position to look at upgrading. The tech specs of the GS4 hardware are good, but the overall package makes it much harder to say of it's the phone to get.

Yeah the spec's are impressive but I'm not going to even think about an S4 until at least 6 months after the first major OTA update.

what makes you use that comparison, the differences between the S3 and 4 is huge hardware and software wise certainly more than the 4S and 5

The 4s and 5 also had big hardware upgrades. eg a new regaler higher resolution screen making the phone bigger and longer, and faster processor etc. I would concur and that it is a similar upgrade, especially as the overall look of the phone between the s3 and s4 is very similar.

I don't see that the processor upgrade in the 5 compares to 4 core to 8 core of samsung nor the doubling of Ram, large increase in camera size etc etc. If we look at the software changes alone it can't be compared at all.

Maybe I'm not getting it at all but think we are comparing apples to oranges here :)

I am actually fairly imrpessed with the s4 from an initial perspective. Bigger screen bigger battery, bigger cpu, gpu and more memory all in a smaller form factor and LESS weight!

copy apple one more time, really are you just trolling with that one?

Not sure how Android can ever follow the speed of Apple given the hands it goes through, besides this isn't new and most people understand this with Android.

I think the market is changing and more and more are updating than would have a few years ago as the technology is changing so fast.

No, I'm not trolling hence the quotation marks it was semi in jest :P

I'm not chomping at the bit to get a S4 like I was with the S2 and the S3 but there's every likelihood I will get an S4 at some stage so definitely no troll, I have genuine interest in this thread

The fact is that the Apple update process is pretty much the pick of the bunch, Android will never get to this point due to the usual hardware fragmentation argument, however, there is no reason Samsung can't mimic something similar for even just their premium models

I believe Google owes a lot of Androids more recent success to Samsung and to give the update process any credibility Google and Samsung need to work closer to get a Samsung OS release in a timely manner after each nexus update. I would accept 1 or 2 months but anymore is unacceptable

Sorry should have been more specific. Where have I seen that this year? Chances are both the SGS4 and the HTC One will have the same operability with NZ EPGs that the Pocket PC does :/
May need to rely on third party apps.

Not trolling, just commenting.
I was holding out thinking I might get the S4 when it's out.
In the end I haven't and am getting HTC One
The main reason: front facing speakers!!!

However, the whole "8 cores" thing is just a marketing ploy. In reality, it's still only 4 cores because it's using the big.LITTLE architecture. It just means that when there's little load it will use the weaker Cortex-A7 @ 1.2GHz cores. For the more power hungry tasks, it will switch to the more powerful Cortex-A15 @ 1.6 ~ 1.8GHz cores.

It will be a while before we get to see both the weak and strong processor run simultaneously. But for now, it's just a battery saving technique.
