Indeed - hence my reluctance to go messing about with things when I've only just got my phone back in working order.

My thoughts at this stage is just to ignore the warnings for now, keep doing regular backups, and I'll eventually sort it in a future upgrade.

JPO w/JPP modem seems fine to me at the moment, although I'm finding the lag annoying, hence my desire to put NO-RFS advanced EXT4 back on.

Apparently just flashing the ROM twice will resolve the problem. So long as you're using a ROM with the good kernel (k9 and higher). But if you're staying on a ROM that's got the problem that might corrupt the /system, then you need t follow Kalpik's instructions.

Likewise, what part the kernel plays in the OS I'm unclear of too. And I also want to apply the NO-RFS advanced EXT4 lagfix, it's a good one and the phone still needs it.

Cool - that gels with my thinking on it too; so if I decide to flash Doc's XXJPO v8 over my current XXJPO v7.6.2, I need to flash the k9 kernel first as per the instructions?

Yes.

I'm debating going to a 2.1 and then starting the whole thing of going to Froyo via Doc's rom. Some have said if you've flashed several roms sometimes things can get left behind. So going back to say JM8 will give you a clean slate to then restart the whole flashing process.

Funny you should say that Neets - since getting things working again on JPO, I've had no Swype or Gallery. . . .I just downloaded JPO Swype and both app packages, installed them from CWM one at a time with reboots inbetween, and I have no change. . . .No Swype or extra apps.

The whole point of going to Froyo was to get flash in the browser, but it's just not the same without Swype etc. I'm really starting to miss Eclair + Voodoo LF.

Tonight I learnt how to sign a zip file. Yeeha!
I followed this post. And within that post you go to another where it provides a bat file that pretty much automates everything for the signing.

With deciding to flash another ROM I wanted to ensure the CSC file was correct for the phone. The link I've provided here was within the Doc thread.

As of yet I've not yet used my new signed zip file, but I can see that it signed it as the 3 files were created.

Have you checked to see if they're in /system/apps? I think some apps were put in data/app, and those as ones you can delete easily, like ADW was put there.

I also don't have the new Froyo camera app. . . not too worried about gallery, but it is a pain having to go into camera to see my pics.

Another question I though of just now too - Kies now says my phone can't be updated, so if I do the reg hack-trick, will it let me upgrade to a full Froyo rom, with Swype etc?

In /system/app, you've got swype.apk?

I expect you'll have to use Odin to go back to the previous firmware for your carrier for it to recognise it via Kies. I could be wrong, but I would def. expect that to work, but there might be other ways.

I don't think it's modem related, I'm on JPP, though I had swype prior to flashing that modem. I know you've rebooted from recovery, wondering if rebooting again might just kick things in the butt and sort it out. Lots of people have thought they had problems and then after powering off and then on again things seemed to be sorted.

i would be cautious about doing it that way. assume there should be some instructions burried in the doc thread about reverting to stock (if that's what you desire). turn phone off and on as above if u havn't done that yet. also I can't remember if you have to enable the swype keyboard under settings or not (like you do with other downloaded keyboards).

Menu | Settings | Locale and Text.
Click the Select input method and select Swype (assumes it's not already selected.

In regards to Kies, I wasn't so much interested in going back to the previous firmware so Kies would work natively - I was meaning doing the reg-hack so I could get the legit European full Froyo builds that you guys who have unlocked phones from Clove can get (apologies if that's not how it works).

Do you have Root Explorer? You could open the zip file and extract the swype.apk, move it into /system/app. Not sure if you'll have to click on the apk in order to install it, possibly.

I assume the zip file downloaded correctly and it contains the file. Might have been a dud download.

Yeah, I saw that too in my d/l file. I've checked my /system/lib folder and I have the file, so yeah, you'd need to copy that across also.

So will this principle work for the other XXJPO packages, base-to-medium/medium-to-full?
