flynkiwi: Like a few people it seems I have found out that my Z3C is not as waterproof as I had been lead to believe.

I only used it in the pool for a short period and that was only just below the surface to take photos but the phone stopped working.
Even though I pressed all the flaps down before using it water got in.

I was thinking it was a fault with the phone and would be covered by warranty but the repair place has come back with it passing the pressure test. So essentially Sony is saying its user error for letting water into their waterproof phone.

Trying to get any resolution from Sony has been meet with a standard response that the phone is IP rated etc etc. I have tried Facebook and escalating within Sony but get the same standard response.

I am a bit at a loss on what to do now since it was an awesome phone and I cant afford to go out and buy something else so I am stuck with a $60 phone which is just painful.

The only thing I can think is Small Claims court.

Any suggestions? Anyone else with this issue that has got a resolution from Sony (Since it seems to be a common issue with these phones)

Had the exact same situation with my Z1 ... used for one shot under an inch of water ... and phone soon stopped.

End result ... out of pocket and retailer basically said the same ... my fault ... and its not a water proof phone.

Even when I sent my Z3c back for repairs, the Telecom store said "Its not waterproof".

The retailer was Sony Style in Sylvia Park. It was bought in December last year. the phone was only 4 months old when this happened. I called Sony Mobile when the issue happened who advised that I take it directly to the repair agent in New Market. Yes it is looking like I will have to go down tribunal with the CGA as not fit for purpose.

Would I file this against Sony Mobile or the retailer Sony Style?

Where you out of Pocket for your z3C or did it get repaired under waranty?

Nope, all done under Warranty.  Needed the headphone jack replacing ... and when they pressure tested, found it needed a new screen as well.

Given yours has passed a pressure test, I can understand their point of view ... that if that passes, then there is supposedly little to explain water getting inside the phone ... in theory.

yeah..in theory.
I can see Sonys point and that they have to draw a line somewhere. The issue I have is that the phone is advertised as waterproof and there is the small print saying you must make sure all ports are closed. So the fact that I pressed down on all ports before using it and it failed is what I am annoyed with.

Yup agree 100%.  TO me that's a design fault!

On my Z1 they found that the port cover wouldnt seat properly and that they could see it was slightly offset.  They reasoned I had somehow managed to twist it around.  THe phone had been a shop demo, and the cover was for the SD card so had been opened once in the life of the phone.

Safe to say, that shop isnt where I bought the Z3 from.

Personally I now steer clear of "underwater" ...

red89mx: mobilefun is where my cases are coming from - will let you know once I receive the goods.....their postage is a bit slow. They seem responsive to emails.

Are you still waiting for your cases?

mrtoken: New firmware rolling out again (looks like its still 5.0.2) but with fixes

Has not hit the spark firmware yet but has hit the non branded AU firmware.
Currently downloading it via Sony PC Companion

Appears system update was pushed to Xperia overnight for Spark users.
Build number 23.1.A.1.28

Hey guys after hearing a lot about the Devilcase went ahead and bought one. So excited when it arrived, after fitting it (extremely easy with nice allan key secures and key included) I have to say it looks great. I took a long time to choose colour for my black z3c but eventually went for their Champagne gold and I'm more than happy. It looks great!! I've attached photos but they don't even do it justice, it oozes quality from all sides. The buttons overlay are perfect, each click is deliberate and sure and feels just like it should. Been showing it off to everyone and got loads of compliments on it. Overall I'd say well worth the extra outlay for a quality product and I'd definitely recommend it.

Looks nice! I like the red colour they sell too. Did you purchase directly from DevilCase? Also what was the leather back colour with the champagne gold frame?

What'd you pay for it and where'd you get it from? The official site?

The leather backing that came with it was white but I haven't used it. One of the main reasons I got this case was that it compliments, even showcases the phone rather than cover it up.

I got it from twdevilcase.com, the official site. They list in USD so it's $33 for the case plus postage and it comes in around $65NZD. Obviously a lot more expensive than others but a lot better than all I looked at in my opinion so I treated myself!

Ah i see it comes with an insert for the dock.

Wish they would sell more than one of these as it now looks like my other 3 docks can't be used.

Oh well.
