jahc: According to the package I received, it came from Hong Kong.

That's right, they use drop shipping.  What did the customs declaration say?  Did it say something like "Galaxy Spica $350NZD" or there abouts?

Isn't that fraud?

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Thats exactly what it is. I wonder who pays the bill if customs confiscate the unit for being incorrectly specified?

Yeah all those people who think they are better off buying from them instead of clove because they are protected by buying from a nz company might want to consider just how safe you feel buying from a company that is falsifying custom records, sounds outright dodgey to me.

nzgeek: According to Mobicity's site, packages to NZ customers come from Sydney warehouse, are sent to either Auckland or Wellington, and then on to customers.

I just re-read the page, and it looks like I read it wrong. Here's what it says:

Normal Delivery Schedule

  • 1 days handling time.

  • Overnight from our Hong Kong warehouse into Sydney International.

  • Additional day to Auckland and Wellington through Fedex (www.fedex.com/nz).

  • NZ regional deliveries usually take 2 to 7 days through UPS (www.ups.com).

  • Packages containing smaller items (e.g. SIM cards and accessories) are sent using Express and Regular Post and usually take 7 to 10 business days to deliver.

So it looks like everything comes via Sydney. It's then either sent via Fedex to Auckland/Wellington, or UPS to anywhere else.

When my phone arrives (hopefully the end of this week, or maybe early next week) I'll post back and say if they're still playing games with the Customs declarations. And on that note, here's their latest status on the phone:

Ships from our suppliers on May 3rd. Shipping expected to begin from the MobiCity warehouse on the 5th of May.

First pre-order allotment is now full however more stock is inbound on 3rd of May and should ship at the same time for all orders placed after 27th April.

I'll do the same. It'll be interesting to see just what they're doing and if they're consistent.
If they ship from their warehouse on May 5th then it'll be next week before it finally arrives at my doorstep. Then I'd better go get a SIM from telecsum and throw my dirty old Sanyo clamshell away!

Nope, just Monday (their time). They probably need a day or so to prepare the stock for delivery before they get it out the door.

Just checked the Clove web site, and they will reopen at 9am on Tue 3rd May (which is 8pm tomorrow night for us). Their end of day will be 4am on our Wed morning.

Clove have also noted that when they re-open they'll be extremely busy shipping out SGS2 units, and not to make any SGS2 shipping-related queries for a while. Depending on how they prioritize their shipping, and the number of orders, it could take a couple of days for phones to start winging their way here.

Update: Just saw that Clove have said they'll need around 3 days to send out all the phones:
Clove says:

It will take 3 days due to the volume of orders that we have. We would love to ship all orders the day that stock arrives but we cannot guarantee this so we are estimating 3 days to ship all orders. We have prepared as much as possible for the arrival of stock.

ROFL - you can't even spell your abuse properly. If that's what you think of them, why will you buy a SIM card from them?

You may also want to consider throwing out an apology before a moderator jumps on you - have another look at the FUG you agreed to - specifically item 5...

LOL Overreact much? Hardly even an insult, it's the most commonly used name for them I know of.

I think you need to relax.

Just because you use someone doesn't mean you have to like them, they might be the best of a bad bunch!

Please accept my most sincere apologies if I offended you, but as stated it is very common.
Telecom for me are the best of what is on offer, but I would rather take my business elsewhere. They are far too inflexible at times and value for money can be debated, but they do offer great convenience (phone, internet, tivo, and 2 cellphones on one bill). I am not going to buy a SIM, they will give it to me (get ≠ buy).

On the plus side sometime next week I'll be holding a smoking hot handset that can happily switch between any NZ network I can choose, with no binding contracts or bloatware to slow me down. I can't wait.

My contribution was on-topic, unlike yours. I suggest you read paragraph paragraph two of the FUG.

Got nothing to do with over-reacting or needing to relax, just a quick, friendly word before a mod delivers a not so friendly one! You've been round long enough, you should realise this.

I seriously doubt that considering some of the other comments made here that seem to be gotten away with regularly, that a moderator would consider this worth commenting on.
