Dingbatt: Have you had a chance to check out the IR blaster? Is there any device support for it?

I have.
The config for my Samsung tv (3 years old) took more or less a single step.
Once I selected the manufacturer, there is no need to select the actual model, it simply said "point it at tv and press the turn-on button". The TV came on, i confirmed it on the device and that was it.
I've had no such luck with my Yamaha AV system. The system is quite old and Yamaha doesn't appear on the list of manufacturers so you have to go through "confirm power, ch+, ch-, 1, 2, ..." buttons.

The actual application is more than just a remote. It allows you to download the TV guide and set your favourite channels and shows. This will then automatically wake your phone and tune the TV into appropriate channel.
It doesn't work for NZ though, at least on my version of the One. The country list includes AUS but not NZ.

The app is capable of fully replacing your standard remote controller but I didn't get far enough to know if it does macros for multi-device setup.

This should make things fun for those of us who would like pure android on the device. By releasing the source code it should hopefully spur a few devs progress into action a little sooner than had they not done this.

With both this and the S4 having a blaster, I have high hopes for a really capable app to appear in the playstore. At times like this I wish my coding skills were from this century rather than the last.

@dauckland, how long does it charge the phone from zilch to 100%? I've read online that it takes up to 2.5 hours?

On this note, if it is quite a long charge time, why not just leave it charging over night? I thought it was no longer possible to 'bloat' batteries from overcharging?

Thats what I do, but from what I read its a 4 hour charge from empty to 100%

Haven't actually timed that one.
So far it's been charged twice, the first time overnight and second during the day.
Given the size of the battery and 1amp size of the charger it will take a wee longer.
I will test it on my 8KMah portable battery that does 2amps.

I'd find that pretty off putting to be honest. Flaking after a week is pretty grim.

Indeed, Paul Obrien reported his black one did the same very quickly also.

Looks like the silver is the only way to go.

Not too fussed. I always put a case on my phones. I prefer silver in terms of looks personally :)

I never use protection with my phones, so it does matter to me to the extent that I'll choose the silver over the black.

This phone is known for its build quality though.
If I have to use a case on it, I might as well just get s4 to be honest.
Think silver colour is the way to go.

Aluminium feels good in hand but not much durable compared to polycarbonate

Do any of you guys use screen protectors or are they unnecessary with the resistance of gorilla glass now
