So a hundred dollar bump on the S7 at launch. Since I broke the camera on my S6 (put a stick through the lens) this may be a contender, but that price is approaching my pain threshold.

Just had a thought though. Is this for 64GB?

And it certainly looked nice on the AM Show this morning. I will reserve judgement on Bixby until I see it demonstrated with a Kiwi accent.

Not too many surprises, considering all of the leaks. Looks to be a solid device. Nothing groundbreaking IMO.

Why March? The S7 started the Nougat beta in Nov and it was rolling out in early Jan.

So, its either the S8+ in few weeks or the Note 8 whenever that launches in September / October. Hopefully, both phones have a build-in flame retardant!!

Why March? The S7 started the Nougat beta in Nov and it was rolling out in early Jan.

Fair enough if it's your thing, but I can't be bothering installing betas, trying to work around knox etc. I prefer to wait for official roll out, and for me, Nougat was March 2017 (ok, Feb 26, but that's virtually Mar).

I'll skip Sammy's slow update this time around and pick up the new bezel-free Pixel 2 later in the year (-;

Gave up worrying about Android updates when each new release became a minor evolution rather than a revolution. I still want access to be able to toggle airplane mode, mobile data, etc from third party apps, that has been designed out of stock android, so I need to be able to root the device to achieve that. So until I can get confirmation that the Nougat S8 is rootable I will hang fire. Either that or Google/Samsung come to their senses and let users to decide what level of security they want for such things.
Pixel 2 might be a player, but only if it is cheaper than the Pixel and come with better storage options.
On the plus side for the S8, I haven't seen any real contenders so far this year that will beat it. That may come in September when the iiPhone, Pixel and Note are revealed. So it has a relatively c clear run at things for 4 months at least.

That's the thing (I have said it many times) samsung is good at hardware and packing phones with everything, sd cards, wireless charging, great screens, good cameras, ip rating etc they just suck when it comes to core android updates and other software improvements when they have a new flagship coming out in a few months.

Glad there are alternative ways to unlock the phone because the fingerprint scanner is way too close to the camera lens. I predict smudgy photos will abound for people that need to use the scanner regularly.

Had an iPhone since 3G, currently on 7 Plus.

But if iPhone 8 is yet another tired design rehash, one of these will be mighty tempting...

The only thing putting me off about this phone is that fact that we get the 4GB Ram while Korea and China get the 6GB RAM. I know this isn't a big deal to some but most phones this year are coming out with 6GB Ram. I wonder if it's possible to order a 6GB one from overseas somehow?

The Korean and China version has more memory because I'd say that Samsung is banking on DeX taking off in China because of the low computer penetration meaning it'll be marketed as a phone and a computer all rolled into one. I'm sure there will be a parallel imported option by some enterprising business but there will most likely be a mountain of gotchas like how some around the web found about importing an HTC 'China only phone' into the US thus requiring a whole lot of hacking to change the language and get Google services working.

Same here. I've had a look at the iPhone 7 Plus and it was going to be the winner but having seen what Samsung has delivered then it has become a lot more difficult than I expected. I'm also seeing whether there will be a price cut on the existing S7 Edge 'Special Edition' that they have running because if the price is low enough then it might be a matter of 'why the heck not'.

For me, as long as I get Android security updates I'm pretty happy because at this stage I don't see major changes occurring other than the usual optimisations and efficiency gains in Android that improves battery life.

On the S7, the heart rate sensor is where the S8 fingerprint reader will be. I find I can land my finger on it perfectly without touching the camera. Its placement suits the index finger for right-handed people. So, I think once this phone lands, the placement wont be so odd afterall.

This. From all accounts I've read, the fingerprint scanner is very easy to reach on the S8. A little harder on the S8+ though.

I'll be going with the S8, so no worries for me.
