Another vote for the Mi Airdots. Great value for money. Minimal controls on the buds though. You can only pause the music (and answer calls) There is no volume control or track forward or back. Otherwise, great.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Is this the same model?

Edit:

AirDots vs AirDots 2: What’s Different

The major difference between the Redmi AirDots and AirDots 2 is the pairing process. The newer Airdots pair with your phone at once as a single unit as opposed to the previous ones where the left or right earbud first paired and then connected to the other.

Another difference is the “Game mode” with the AirDots 2. Game mode brings low-latency connectivity between your phone and the earbuds when you’re playing games. It can be activated by triple-pressing the multi-function button.

I need 2 pair, looks like Amazon is NZ$86 delivered for 2 sets. Mi-store was limit 1 and the shipping was $10 to the South Island.

Thanks; looking at get him a pair of the Airdots 2 from Mi; but then I also just saw these Xiaomi Mi Airdots Pro 2 Air 2 for $50 from 1day:

Does anyone know how these compare to the Airdots 2 (which are more like a lumpy Galaxy Buds, rather than the Airpods ripoff of these ones).

If they're substantially better could be tempted...

I have these.  Great sound, fit well for running, great battery life.  Mic is okay.

You can use either left, right or both.  I tend to use only one of them when biking or running on busy streets, and put both in when at the gym or running on quiet streets as they block out a lot of the back ground noise.

1 click mute / answer.  2 clicks forwards and three clicks back

+1 on that. Had a set for about 18 months now. Do lots of running, mountain biking with them and are brilliant. Never worried about loosing them. Occasional drop out for 1-2s but very minimal. Total battery time is about 3:45. Only issue is they will probably take 6-8 weeks to arrive from aliexpress.

I ended up with a pair of haylou gt1 and I really can't complain for the price. Seemingly in phone calls the mic isn't great but audio wise they are fine for basic listening needs. I have good headphones for most uses but I do find the buds really hand to pop one or both in for some casual YouTube or to listen to music about the house when no one else wants to hear it.

Sound quality wise they seem better than most cheap wired buds and even some of the better buds I tried over the years. The lack of cable is just nice, I used to get through so many cabled pairs but since going Bluetooth I don't think I've managed to actually kill any.

I've owned a pair of these for about a year and now the battery in the right one is starting to die and isn't lasting more than 2 hours vs the left one getting about 4.

They're good but IMO only for a year. They've been replaced with some Skullcandy Jib+ that was on sale for under $20 at PBTech.
