I've been keeping an eye on this thread and many others over the web looking out for user reviews/feed back.

Haven't really had anything to add till now, but on the talk of if it's more or less attractive to have a phone with a large user base.
I'd say for sure better.
I imported a HTC One S into NZ almost as soon as it came out.

And it's been a great phone, but with the much lower user count next to the S3 or even the One X, does lower the amount of accessories. As it turned out, no one ended up stocking it here, so everything I wanted had to come from overseas.

After having the One S for a year now, I would point out for anyone looking at getting the "One" Dont buy the black!
The One S is all but the same kind of metal body, and even though I really look after my stuff, it has chip type marks almost all the way round :(
I like the look and the feel of the metal body, so I don't and would never use a case.

I really want the One as my next phone (would make 3 HTC's in a row) but if the S4 is in stock on the 27th, and if there is no hard 100% eta date which is soon after that for the One, it's going to be very hard to hold out.

Other than physical properties why would you purchase the HTC One over the S4? I am not trolling, but seems to be that the reviews indicate that other than built quality (Other than black) the S4 outshines the One in pretty much everything.

Its good to hear a personal point as the internet is filled with peoples opinons about black and white phones.

So far what I have read is the One is prone to chipping and it doesn't matte which color because the finish will still chip off in the wrong conditions, but I think the white one will perform better thus why its being pushed as the main unit because black only really works on plastic and glass like my Xperia Z because the only downside is the smudges

it is pretty much the same issue as the iphone 5 when that was released. it had lots of these chipping issues.

personally, i was going with the s4. for the exact reason that it is a better performer than the htc one in pretty much every aspect. but the thing that brought me to the htc one is the price. for 800 bucks at release...why would i go with the s4 at 1150 at release...

while yes i agree on the point that less user base means less cases etc, i have been with a Samsung Gnex for the past 15 months...the only thing i ever purchased for it was a poach and i got that from ebay for 10 bucks..

For the most part, the spec's are soo close (for me atleast and what I need it to do) it doesn't really matter.

In the end, for the One..
Price, looks to be cheaper, could be as much as $250
The front speakers (this would be nice to have)
And the metal body (man I hope it's better than the One S)

For the S4
Bigger screen, for about the same size case (only a little bit bigger, but bigger is bigger)
Accessories, Samsung just does it better.

I think we need to stop focusing on supposed performance, Everyone's needs are different and half the phones use the same chipset of processor. Long story story short Quad core is enough, its overkill and anyone who knows anything about what cores are actually used for in terms of tasking knows that no phone can fully utilize four cores at once.

Yes performance can still be in refrerence to benchmarks and software but everything is contrastive, its all about what you have now (in terms of phone) so unless your going to buy both phones your not going notice any performance difference everything else is made up heresy invented by reviewers because they do get to play with every phone and that creates a faux benchmark for their own user experience.

A couple of reviews said my new Xperia Z wasn't overly responsive and that the software is a bit buggy etc and I didn't notice any of that..maybe because my last phone was a Gnex and thats what I am comparing it to.

So compare your own opinions to what you have now as a benchmark, not what the reviewer said.

I should have been more specific, i meant in terms of camera, battery life (larger battery pack & HTC are notorious for shorter battery lives), Screen size + software features.

The chipset is the same (Snapdragon 600 for both (s4 LTE version) so the processor performance is almost the same and they are miles ahead of what i have in my Gnex.

I suggest you go to pricespy.co.nz. register with them and search for the HTC one. Add it to your alerts and when the price is reduced at any store you will get an email.
I have a few alerts on there and the alert system is awesome.

Yep, I brought this up when it first came to light, but the content was all in Chinese. Good to see that Western media is now picking this up.

S4 actually has exactly the same size dimension as S3.
I missed the Easter sale as well. I am happy to wait for both devices to come out and compare in my hand.
Noel Leeming should do similar sale for Queen's bd

I cancelled my order with handtec, and im going to get an HTC One X from Harvey Norman tomorrow for 499$, and use it until the HTC One comes out in NZ and il buy it then. tired of this waiting for stock.

Actually no, the S4 is slightly smaller than the S3:

S4 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm S3 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm

...also very slightly smaller than the One, near enough equivalent to be a non-issue in deliberating between the handsets:

S4 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm HTC One 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm

I don't think anyone has a solid answer to this right now. April 24th seems to be when the next wave of stock is due, but I don't think any of that will reach our shores. I doubt we'll see it before May, and probably more like mid-May the way things are headed.
