If $1049 is the price point from Telcos then surely Telecom will offer a $100 off if you register your interest like they have for other handsets

I would expect to see pricing flooding through tomorrow and Monday if I had to guess.

motorwayne: Well, the Harvey/Telecom price isn't going to win any friends. I guess Telecom are just planning on very not many people hearing about the Warehouse Stationary offer and that most people are not pre orderers.

Probably should put the WS offer on FB just b/c they're making an effort, in fact I'll do that right now.

Shared on FB as well.
I feel good supporting them.

WS will have just serioulsy pissed off Telecom and Voda.

They will go to Samsung and demand they match it

My opinion:

It will be matched, if not beaten. All WS have done is destroy the margin in a phone that people would probably have happily bought at $1049 (or higher).
Good on them - consumer wins. The other thing that will happen is that the price of the Note and the SII will have to drop to keep the SIII as the flagship model.

I would hold off on preordering as the big players wont like getting beaten by WS/2Degrees. Let's see what the response is.

The thing is, like Dell who did the same with IT equipment, it's a lose lose in the long term. You win as a consumer but then Margins get tight, staff are asked to do more with less, service stutters, quality drops...

To be fair though VF have long put a stupid premium on their devices above even RRP. I recall the GS2 was $1300 when you could buy it in stores directly for $999. I understand $100, but $300? Not reasonable.

I will be happy at 999, ok at 1099, and pissed anything above that.

Doesn't matter if you get a telecom or vf or 2d one, they are all the same phone and work on all networks right?

It will be interesting to see if they have custom firmware related to the carrier on them, I would be surprised considering the short term between announcement and release.

I think $100 off retail is not to bad and is pretty extreme saying that is "destroying margin", if you recall Telecom did the same for HTC One X pre-order.

It is a fair incentive for customers who willing to pre-order and secure shipment. I noticed that they also indicate the normal RRP of $1049 beside the pre-order special.

I would say the other Telcos will most likely match the prize for pre-order.

I don't think Telecom will have custom firmware - on the One X they just have two browser shortcuts to T-World and My Telecom on the homescreen. Seems a fair indication they've got their heads around being hands-off with firmwares (not that that appears to be helping push firmware updates out in the case of the One X).

It occurs to me that the $0 Smartphones on $100 monthly plan for 2 years is a crazy good deal, subtract $999 from $2400 you get $1400 for 2 years phone plan!

Compare that to this:

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/business/mobile/plans/smart/

Which gives you a measly $250 discount on hardware on a 2 year contract.

Big Question is "why are VF and XT dragging the chain? " and secondly why are we even having to have this conversation?

Plainly the answer to the second question is the first question.

Good lord man. Warehouse Stationary don't have to worry about plans, billing changes, massive marketing campaigns. To them it's just a product like any other product. To Telco's it's so so so much more complicated.

People need to get a reality check here. It's a phone, not oxygen!
