johnr: No way you can get 146Mbps DL and 46Mbps UL on a 3G dual carrier site that has a max speed of just under 43Mbps DL and 5.7Mbps UL

Yes you can set the Nexus and almost all other other 4G handsets to 3G only

I know the Hauraki corner site is CAT4 4G / LTE site

Sorry, can you clarify this please? I was under the impression that Vodafone's 4g network was band/cat 3 which is only supported by the international (D821) N5? Is the US spec (D820) N5 with band/cat 4 LTE also compatible with Vodafone's 4g network? Or is the Hauraki Cnr site a different network altogether?

Two separate things. Band 3 is different from cat 3. Band will mean it works on local networks, category indicates how fast it will go.

Thanks for that. So Vodafone NZ is band 3 lte, meaning I need to get the international (D821) N5 to access the 4g network?

Interesting.

If you don't mind my asking - which version and how much? Do you know where it was originally sourced from?

Same here. Battery life mostly. KitKat is supposed be better. @ajobbins, how is your battery life compared with the S3?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Hard to say at this point as I have been using it pretty heavily (oooh new shiny!) and also I am charging more frequently due to the convenience of my wireless charger (that I never had for the S3).

But my feeling at this point is that it's better than the S3 when on standby, but worse than the S3 when in use (Ie. Screen on drains the battery at a faster rate than the S3 did) - but you can kind of expect that with the better screen on the N5.

I also had a 3000mah batter for the S3 which make it last even a very long day out, and was easy to swap between that and the standard. This was very useful when I was travelling recently, but obviously not possible with the Nexus sadly.
