EDIT: The Zagg has a much bigger battery than the powerstick btw.

Yeah. It's not so easy to decide now ;-) We'll use it while overseas as well. Having the storage capacity of the Powerstick really appeals. The size of teh Zagg doesn't. But it's capacity is as you say, significantly more. Charging the Zagg though I'll need an adaptor and given where the prongs are (is that a technical term?) it may not sit nicely in a power adaptor. The cost of courier for the Powerstick is pretty steep and US$30. But I like that it's little and wont look naff. But the reviews of the Zagg are quite compelling.

Maybe I'll flip a coin. Heads it's Powerstick.

Hmmmm, Kies has just been updated.....does this mean Gingerbread is coming in the next few days like they suggested on several sites?

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Dunno. Updated my Kies (slow download...) and connected the SGS in the vain hope that there would be a delightful gingerbread surprise awaiting. Bzzzzzzzzt... wrong. The firmware upgrade menu item is greyed out so we wait. Again. Or ignore this hinky pile of poo and grab a rom from XDA.

I don't mind a little antici... pation, but Sammy has developed the delayed update process into a black art.

I'm off to burn an effigy of the CEO of Samsung Korea.

I doubt there will be an official Gingerbread rom anytime soon, the JV1 Rom that was leaked was a pile of crap and nowhere near ready

Haha go flash CM7 if you want to try Gingerbread, I think it.s 2.3.3 as well

XWJS8 is a pretty good base rom, I'm happy with it.

who really would trust Kies anymore for updates... you will end up getting a carrier specific 2yr old build of software because they wont be game enough to bet that the new versions will be stable enough to support.

TNZ official firmware is still Eclair. they MAY switch to froyo in the next year. and theres no way youre gonna see official gingerbread for at least another 2yrs...

surely the only way is to watch development of roms on XDA and flash a custom rom once tested by the community??

Can you point me at where I can get the JPY you are using? Is it the one under the Europe list on samfirmware? My sons phone keeps crashing for some reason after we did the Kies registry hack a while ago so looking to try ways to fix it.

Can you point me at where I can get the JPY you are using? Is it the one under the Europe list on samfirmware? My sons phone keeps crashing for some reason after we did the Kies registry hack a while ago so looking to try ways to fix it.

Using the XXJPY for PDA and phone, XAJPY for the csc, via Samfirmware as you suspected for the hardware, but I googled a replacement 'improved' csc and flashed it separately. The kitchen might be the easiest method as you can do it in a single flash. You'll have to enter the apns again most likely, but I thought it worthwhile to have all my functions working. And the phone's as well. :-)

), I'm less of a ROM junky than just want a really good user experience. I do get a perverse kick out of the risks involved in the flashing process, though.
