I actually had a question for all those users who have got their hands on the HTC One. Does the surface of the phone actually get chipped during normal day to day usage? That is, as the reports have indicated that there is some chipping. Has anyone experienced this?

freitasm: These are the handsets I'm sending to the next two Geekzoners to participate in the TelecomTech blog:

I would love to participate in the Tech blog as well :)

From time to time Telecom asks me to select some Geekzone users to received a handset, some account credit and write four to five blog posts over a month - about anything related to the handsets.

So far we've done this for HTC One X, HTC Sensation, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Lumia 920 Samsung Note II and now the HTC One.

Just participate around, make sure you're helpful and clued up - and sometimes answer to my calls...

We have had a very good run so far. Telecom has been very good at sponsoring these and the people we selected have been great. I am sure there are some other opportunities coming soon...

That sounds like reasonable price to me. I like the idea of buying this phone from a reputable local retailer. I have bought Galaxies from Clove and Expert Infotech in the past but this time I'm being a bit more cautious, thinking of CGA etc.

Expert Infotech is locally based and you shouldnt have issues with CGA in case of a warranty claim

They are locally based but are a parallel importer. Phones I have bought from them in the past have come with a non-NZ charger + a NZ adapter. I believe that if you have a warranty claim they have to send it overseas.

This time I think I would prefer 'real' local.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Would this be for a Telecom or Vodafone handset?

I'm not sure sorry - the guy did not specify and I didn't think to ask. I understand that Telecom will be retailing theirs at $1000 and Vodafone at $1150, but JB is typically cheaper than most places so its hard to tell based on pricing alone.

Jb only sells Vodafone handsets so that one is a Vodafone handset.

freitasm, if you have the handsets from Telecom, can you tell us whether it's 4G compatible?

Vodafone does not have LTE in Wellington, and I don't have a Vodafone SIM.

Fired up one of the devices, inserted my Telecom SIM and the options I see are GSM, WCDMA, GSM+WCDMA only.

I just replied before your post.

As for the other question, these two I have here are not retail. I am getting a retail box on Monday or Tuesday though.

Thanks so much. Bugger...looks like the rumour is true. It's a 3G device only. No!
