Damager: Anyone running a dual sim thing like the one below? Or know of the next best alternative available in NZ via TradeMe?

ive done a bit of hunting into the dual sim world as the GF has wanted a "work sim and home sim" on one handset option since forever.

almost all dualsim handsets are dual 2G only, which is useless... the best we could find was the Samsung B7722 which offers 3G on sim1 and 2G on sim2. the OS is not android, but i guess samsungs own touchwiz style proprietary interface which looks almost exactly the same. has a dedicated sim swap button on the side, you can send from either sim easily, recieve from both at the same time, for both calls and sms, set different ring tones etc to differentiate, rah rah. actually was a very powerful semi smartphone for what it is, and worked really well.

can do all the android style things like multiple homescreens, widget adding, etc. but no market, just built in widgets. hence semi-smartphone.

we actually have it for sale now as she has decided to take the leap into the world of android, and picked up a Galaxy Ace - so if youre interested let me know

The only other proper ANDROID based dual sim 3G smartphone was the Viewsonic V350 announced like in february or something, looked amazing, but since then not a word about it, so who knows when or if it will ever come out.

i use the CPUMaster Free app which allows you to set the governor as well as CPU min/max assuming your kernel allows it, would that work for you perhaps?

IMPORTANT. Under Modem choose BUJP5 if you are Vodafone.

I did this initially but I flashed JV1 modem which is the one that VF NZ have in their Gingerbread rom.
Even though I'm with 2 degrees, I found it an improvement over JP5.

There seems to be something wrong with deodexed JVP-based roms which is causing the phone to coma. I am very tempted to try stock JVP because I am totally fed up with checking my phone and finding I can't wake it.

JP5 was indicated as to be for vodafone worldwide but I will accept your findings - after all I no longer has a stock one to check.

However I can say that my rom is by far the best I have had for power consumption. The combination of chainfire's tweak tool to get the conservative cpu governing on, plus Juice Defender, mean I am now getting nearly two days of decent use out of my Galaxy i9000

I never got much over half a day of decent use with cyanogenmod

have you got a link to the chainfire tweak tool? have done a search but not sure which tool it is :-(

I think you will find both CWM Manager and Tweak Manager in apps if you have installed the cfroot or chainfire kernel from a zip or from the kitchen otherwise would will find out about it on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 . It should be in the kernel.. somehow!! Don't use rom manager.

The ext4 manager is installed separately as indicated on that page.

Just looked at my Titanium backup of cwm and it contains no executables.

lofreq:your paid apps are still registered as paid on the market, on your account, regardless if they have been wiped from your phone. so you can redownload and reinstall them again to your hearts content.

alternatively as you have backed up wisely using TB then its a simple batch operation to "restore all user apps" and they will all come back. you can choose to also restore user data since youre staying on froyo, it should be all good (all of my restores were) but if you do go to gingerbread later, dont restore froyo user data back over that or it can cause trouble. but thats for another time.

and yes i am talking about skipping part 2 and installing 9.5 directly using CWM - all you were doing by flashing 9.2 was just getting the base Froyo onto the phone and overwriting the stock Eclair.

as far as copying data to the phone in mass storage mode, dont use Kies etc. go into settings>application>development and enable USB debugging. now, when you plug your phone into USB instead of that multi choice menu for Kies, etc, you will get a notification that USB is plugged in. drop down your notifications and there will be an option to "connect via USB" - choose that, and presto, the phone will talk to your computer, and appear as a removable drive in mycomputer. now simply drag and drop your CWM files across, when done, unplug and youre ready to rock

I think I am ready to take the plunge then. I might have a go in the next few days.

Step 1 Backup all apps using Titanium and upload to Dropbox
Step 2 Is to remove the One Click Lagfixes from Eclair v2.1 right?
Step 3 Follow the steps using the Darky v9.2 Resurrection.
Step 4 Flash Darky v9.5
Step 5 Flash k13e Kernel
Step 6 Flash UGKC1 Modem CWM2 version
Step 7 Restore apps as necessary.

I have the youtube video and geekzone instructions...so should be sweet there. I have noted down my, IMSI, IMEI & Android ID.

What was the point of the Darky Configurator?

Is there a reason you are installing 9.5?

I believe in the recent couple of pages that the recommendation was to run Darky's v9.5 Froyo, rather than Darky's v10.1 Gingerbread.

I have both downloaded and ready to go.

if you wanted to change options in darky's rom before installing 9.5, you would download and install the configurator from the market after step3 and before step4. but its not crucial, because you will be rectifying the important things afterwards by installing your own chosen kernel and modem - however if you want to tweak certain other things like "the colour of your settings icons" and such, then have a play with it after step 3.

otherwise looks like youre ready to go.

it makes sense to me to have a crack at using the phone on Froyo (using 9.5 rom) before you go to Gingerbread (10.1) just to give yourself some learning and transition time :) - also im quite sure the 9.5 JS8 rom is alot more bug-free than 10.1 GB, thats the main reason recommending you stay with Froyo for now.

Fair enough, i ran froyo for 2 days before flashing 10.1 its never ever crashed once, not one FC at all :)

will be staying this way for a while, havent been tempted to flash to 2.3.4 just yet :)

Both machines I have plugged the phone into don't have Kies installed. I am reinstalling Kies to see if there is a driver issue.
