Yes, it is unlocked - as are all current NZ-new Nokia devices with the exception of the 3310 featurephone.

Interesting - I feel like the Sirocco is a year too late. It's nice, but it's no longer current tech inside or out, putting it at a disadvantage vs. both 2018 and late 2017 flagships.

The Nokia 7 is the one I'll be betting on.

I presume you mean 7 plus? Meh its just a midranger with an IPS display. The Sirocco is a flagship with p-oled 1440p 534 ppi vs 403 1080x2160 on the 7 which is a 6" 18:9, I cant stand that resolution. Id only put up with it on a flagship.

In saying that the 7 plus with the 3800mah battery and 630 soc, the 6 inch IPS will be good for browsing newscasts etc and no worries about burn in with the 18:9 as its only IPS. If circa $400-500 it will be a good buy. Otherwise too many good Asian market imports of similar build.

I dont see how the Sirocco is a year late. A lot of devices wont be getting sd845 this year. Im not sure what else is late about it, its just making the 8 what it should have been.

Yes the 7 plus - which notably has a 660 with A72 cores rather than an all-A53 630, putting it in rather different territory. The Sirocco is essentially an S7 edge. As was the Mate 9 Pro. The double-curved 1440p OLED form factor is a bit old hat by this point, although if you dig it this would be the one to go for - for software support alone. The difference between true-stripe 1080p IPS and PenTile 1440p OLED is not as big as it sounds though.

660 is a chip that strikes the right balance to pique my interest, essentially built from the ground up to power flagship-level devices without a power-hungry GPU I wouldn't stress anyway (see: Huawei's Kirin chips pre-Mate 9). Give me more screen-on time for browsing and email. The Mi6 is too small for me, the OPPO R11/s runs ColorOS which is very much not my cup of tea, and we're otherwise a bit short on 660 devices of note because it was built for OPPO who got a time to market exclusive on it. I expect 7 Plus to land around $799 here and believe it to be worth that. The 6" 18:9 form factor is phenomenal, essentially a 5.5" 16:9 but taller, so has a width I can type comfortably on with enough extra real estate to make browsing and video enjoyable, all while fitting into a compact footprint. Very much enjoying it on my V30 and wouldn't go back to 16:9 - and I'm not a fan of Samsung's too-tall 18.5:9, it took an extended hands-on to convince me this is the form factor for me. This is a good balance and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who loved 5.7" 16:9 devices like the Notes of old.

To my mind an Android One Nokia 7 Plus is direct competition for the OnePlus 5T with a bigger battery, more original design, and better long term software support. Nokia's most compelling device since the relaunch. Sirocco is again a nice looking piece of kit, and to be fair reports to date indicate I'd rather an 835 than an 845 (835 is Qualcomm's best in many years), but the market will not support that form factor and last year's flagship processor at that price in large numbers.

I do hope the 7 Plus makes it here. Telcos don't like the premium midrange as it doesn't fit well into the subsidy structure.

Yeah I understand your opinion. I guess it depends on what is important to you in a phone.

Android 1 for all the Nokias subscribed to it is a great move. Sirocco included.

IMO the Sircocco isnt late its just on time, if its camera lives up to expectations it should be more competitor to s9 than s7. perhaps somewhere between s8/s9. The S9 really doesnt change anything.

Do you know when the new Nokias will arrive here?

Im trying to find the sensor in the 7 plus, using Zeiss lenses which is USUALLY a good thing, but if its using the ugly Sony sensor it wont be good. However the 12Mp Sensor is the 362? Which is usually good, I forget ugggh and no info yet.

So we looking about $800nzd?

Thats the only issue for me, for a mid range phone, its a lot. Its screen is big but not high in pixel count, which is good for battery life but bad for being ultra sharp, more importantly is its nits rating and contrast ratio, ill try to find those out. Yes the SD660 is the best mid range soc to date, well soon to be. The phone looks gorgeous in pearl white and gold trim. Like the Sirocco it looks premium. But for about the same money the galaxy s8+ will have dropped to.

Its all guessing unless you have some info being the man with the finger on the pulse?

I wonder if its the same sensor thats in the Meizu M6 note, which is in the HTC 11 which an absolute beauty. 12MP, I think its 386 from memory.

Edit: Nope sadly they are both using Samsung sensors, so Im not that hopeful.

Edit: Although this is whats in the Meizu m6 Note, so when they Samsung, what part of the sony sensor is samsung relevant?

Ok so to sum up the new Nokia 6 (2018 version).

Zeiss lenses added but same sensor (dont expect miracles, but I own a camera lol).

Move from SD430 to SD630, this is the big move, the SD630 will provide a much speedier experience with multiple apps, offers better battery saving features etc etc

Move to Android one, no bloatware

4GB and 3GB variants

Its body which is carved from solid Aluminum looks even more svelte if that is possible, very classy.

I might just hang on for a few weeks, I wish we had an actual release date for NZ.

Edit: Ugggh everywhere just says from April. Pricing is around $450AU, so about $500NZD which is pretty darn good for such a classy phone. I need a phone right now though, from April could be May for NZ which could be 8 weeks.

It is certainly getting confusing with the many models etc on the market at the moment.

As much as I liked the sound of the Meizu M6 Note - I dont think I am confident that there will be much surety with OS updates on the Meizu phones.

I also like the thought of pure Android with quick and reliable patches and updates - Maybe Android One is important to me.

I see the current (old) Nokia 6 selling for $299 at Harvey Norman at the moment - Presumably clearing the way for the Nokia 6 (2018) model. You might be right about the ~$500ish price - but they usually drop after a month or so.

The trouble is that there is always something better coming up.... sigh....

EDIT: Actually - You can see the relative appeal for Apples customers. You want an iPhone - You buy an iPhone. Little choice - just pay your money.

Edit: HTC U11 Life is releasing in Australia today for $599. Maybe that's coming here.

The Meizu 6 was faster than most to already be updated to Oreo. What it holds in the future, cant promise you.

The Nokia 6 is cheap because it runs a really low end cpu, sd430, the 2018 version which is a really HOT looking phone runs a sd630, much better performance. In black and copper edges its just super svelte.

But good news on Nokia 7, its been released. Not here yet but early April might just be possible.

Seriously Nokia know how to build quality. Single piece Aluminim, polycarbonate over the back with a rounded edge and FLAT panel front, thanks goodness, Im over the Sirocco already, as much as i like oled, the galaxy s8 with dual curved edges is a soap bar, add to that glass front and back, durrr.

Anyway back to the 7, how hot does it look in white? I mean I love it in black and copper too. I will likely get the 6 as it should be $500nzd. Interested to see what work Zeiss have done to a very mediocre sensor and see if its improved the poor 2017 camera.

I like Nokia numbering, they arent changing the numbers, they just change the year released. Makes sooooo much more sense to me.

Both 6 7 and 8 on Android one for updates and patches.

I dont like 18:9, I get why, so you can see more on a page, but I just hate bezels on movies, ok not such a biggie on LCDs for burn in.

Yep I think so, see my post on the 7 released, hoping the 6 not far behind for easter, hoping......

Interestingly the Meizu m6 note uses the same sensor as the htc u11, hence why its the best mid range snapper, clearly not the same quality of lenses as the HTC. I was tempted to import a note m6 for $230, global version. its on Oreo already. but with the nokia 7 news, im torn. What will $400 euro end up being in NZ, I mean not currency wise as we know we get shafted, Im picking Nokia 7 to be $800, the 6 $500. Whilst I REALLY like the 7, thats going up against a cheaper oneplus 5t and the galaxy s8 at around that pricing.

BUT, SD660 with 3800mah and the 6" is only LCD IPS 1080p 18:9 equivalent, (18:9 makes naming conventions harder too haha), screen on time should be phenemonal. But you look at the meizu m6 note with 5.5" and 4000mah and its only getting 5-6 hours. So im reallllllly hoping SD660 is a huge step up over SD 625 and 630 for battery consumption?
