Hey all

Am tempted to buy this phone today from Warehouse Stationary as they tell me they will price match to a good cheap Akl store I found. Only prob is that its a Telecom phone and I want to run it on 2 degrees. Anyone foresee any hassle?

It should work on 2degrees just fine. It uses the correct frequencies for 2degrees and Vodafone (if/when you roam onto their network), and you might only need to do some minor tweaking, such as setting the correct APN and MMS settings, voicemail number, small stuff like that.

You might find (the One X does this) that when you first switch it on it comes up with the Telecom logo and splash screen, and regardless of whose SIM is in it this will always show up each time the phone is switched on. Plus you'll have a couple of Telecom's apps preinstalled, and I'm not sure if these can be uninstalled or not.

Gsmarena.com says it works on 850/900/2100 3G frequencies, however this is often incorrect. It might pay to check first to make sure it supports 900mhz 3G or else you may find 3G coverage limited on the 2100mhz band.

If there are two versions of the phone (which there often are) one will likely be an 850mhz variant and one will be a 900mhz variant. If there are two different models, Telecom will be the 850mhz one.

If there are two variants, Telecom's model will be the 850mhz version as that is the frequency their network operates on. The 900mhz version (if it exists) probably won't be available from any NZ retailers other than parallel importers.

Like I said earlier, just check to confirm what bands it works on, it may in fact work on both 850 and 900, but it's likely not to.

Mmmmm, that is not good. I went and looked at some handsets today. The reviews of the One V generally consider it underpowered. I am wondering if a 64gb Nokia N9 might meet my needs better - but no darn card slot, grrrr.

We have a One V in the house, seems fine to me. Plays The Sim 3 very well and I even installed GTA 3 on the sly and that is ok too. I have not noticed and speed issues.

My Nokia 701 ran very nicely with a 1ghz overclocked to 1.3ghz. Before it died... :(

If it's a Telecom one as someone else said it does 850 and 2100 bands 2D uses the 2100 band for 3G and the 900 / 1800 band for GSM which cells fones sold here support as well.. I haven't had any problems using Telecom fones on 2D.

No problem. Dont think you would want to go less than the specs on the OneV when running ICS but it is a good device and performance is solid for its price point. The little issues I see are more related to HTCs sense overlay.

Its simple. It has 2100mhz 3G so you get 3G coverage in main areas.
Leave the main centres, which is mostly 2degrees broadband zones, and you will drop to 2G signal. This is because the device won't have 900mhz to use vodafones 3G extended network.

I am swaying more towards a Android handset now as I discovered how good the integration is with Google services. I use gmail / calendar etc a lot. And the idea of investing another large sum in Nokia's dying platform - even though I love their phones - seems to make no sense.

The sweet size for me (having handled a few yesterday) seems to be 3.9-4.0 inches, no more. Navigation is important to me, and HTC seems to have a good solution for that. With a quick filter on gsmarena the Incredible S looks like worth investigating.

Good question. I played with a colleagues Windows phone and it looked great. But no card slot - crazy. I have a 64gb micro sd with all my music, audiobooks etc. So a phone without a card slot would not be useful for me. Why limit yourself to the memory built into a phone? This seems a large flaw to me with the Windows Nokia phones.
