Hello

I just bought  Android Media Box off www.thedeal.co.nz for $ 125

This was sent to me from China from the company who is selling  these thru the following website also

http://www.chinavasion.com/china/wholesale/Home_Audio_Video/HDD_Media_Players/Android_Media_Player-1080P_Full_HD_8GB_Flash_Memory_Built-in_WiFi_AV_HDMI_LAN_SD_Android_4.0_ICS

I having hard time in setting it up.

It claims to have android 4 which I doubt.I also own Galaxy note which is running on ICS so I know it should be easy to navigate.

The user interface is quite clinky and very difficult to find the way around. Youtube videos even in high quality are quite fuzzy at the best.

Internet browsing is also very slow. I have 3.7 mbps download speed which is fairly OK.

Can somebody pls tell me how to upgrade the software of this to latest android version.

Any help will be appreciated.

Tnx

You may not find much support for a product like this.

What android version does it say in Settings > About

Wee doggie... I have an FV-1 Android TV running Android v2.2 with a 1GHz Processor and SXG540 GPU. Similar style of box, just a bit older and less powerful.

These style of device are not really plug and play and you'll probably only get firmware updates to fix bugs for the first six months to promote it's sales .. if you're lucky... then nothing.

The whole unit is based around a production run and then that's it.

On my FV-1 Android TV the Android OS was cobbled together to support the box's hardware and then left at that.
One is missing a lot of standard features common on many Android v2.2 releases.

Not having a GPS/aGPS module will bite you on the bottom too, as you'll be surprised how many applications rely on locale positioning..(Hello NZ MetService)

On my FV-1 Android TV I rooted it using Z4Root v1.3 and then gutted the whole thing.

Replaced just about every system/app application and now have a 'working' minimalistic Android v2.2 environment.

I also changed the screen density down to 145 which better suited a 40" HD-TV (1366x768) screen.

I have 12Mbit Internet and 100Mbit LAN(Ethernet) access to NAS for streaming 720p mkv videos and with the SGX540 GPU I'm on the ragged edge of watch-able. Using the latest market applications, I get a reasonable picture on applications like IMDb and YouTube. I use BSPlayer for best video playback on the FV-1 Android TV.

I'd say XDA developers and/or http://androidforums.com is about all the support you'll get.

Good luck and I hope you have a bit of time on your hands. :-)
