I purchased a Galaxy SIII 32GB from PBTech, knowing it wouldn't be 2Degrees, so no Open SIMAlliance API for Touch2Pay.  Am currently on Vodafone (Hoping they are the other provider Snapper is working with currently).  Was just going to Use Odin to flash Vodafone or 2Degrees Firmware as I wanted.

Am perplexed with the Firmware that came with phone though.  When I put my brothers Touch2Pay SIM in it sees that fine and gives me the balance.  He can also check the balance with his SIII.  I didn't expect the App to be able to read it, expecting this to be an overseas phone without the capability.

Using Check Fus

My Phone

Product Code: GT-I9300MBONZC
PDA:  I9300XXALF2
Phone:  I9300XXLF2
CSC:  I9300NZCALF2

My Brothers SIII (16GB - 2 Degrees Stickered Box)

Product Code: GT-I9300MBDNZC
PDA:  I9300XXALF2
Phone:  I9300XXLF2
CSC:  I9300NZCALF2

The only difference between the two phones is the Product code, I have an O while he has a D.  Both are NZC which I guess is NZ Communications.

I am now thinking do I just leave as is or still chuck on the Vodafone, though I need to read up more about it I see that Cell Dormancy is talked about in other posts that 2D doesn't have it and Vodafone and Telecom do and this can reduce battery life.

The API is stored on 2Degrees sim card from memory. There is a snapper thread that goes into more detail. Also unless it has changed recently, only VF run Fast Dormancy

No, the SIMAlliance Open Mobile API is on the phone itself which allows the Snapper app to read the balance from the Touch2PaySIM

Correct about VF being the only carrier to support Fast Dormancy.

Easy enough to turn it on and off using "FastDormancy Toggle" from Google Play (on a rooted phone)

I don't want to root phone. Since my phone seems to work with the Touch2Pay sim but I will be on Vodafone, trying to work out if I leave as is or put vodafone firmware on due to sim dormancy.

If you look at original post at phone Product Code. Seems very close to 2degrees but not. Trying to work out who's it is.

You're happy to flash another ROM onto your phone but not root it......?

Well put it this way. If VF go down the Snapper Touch2Pay path like 2D, then they'll release an update for their handsets with the API included to make it work. So just flash the VF firmware on it and carry on with your life.
