Hoping someone can help with this. I am trying to move stuff - music, photos, videos and apps to a 32gb external SD card on my Galaxy S2. Also trying to do the same with wife's Galaxy S (original).
I cannot find anything on Play that I can get to work. Most of the file managers just give you a useless short cut to the Android app menu.
Has anyone got any suggestions?

Yup, ES File Explorer or Astro Manager, prefer the ES one though
Used it for 2+ years, with a rooted phone you have access to ALL of the filesystem
It'll be perfect for you

OR, plug your phone into your PC and use it to move the files across using Windows Explorer

I use both ES File Explorer and ASTRO File Manager on my various Android devices. Both have file cut, paste and copy options. ASTRO allows multi file selection.

ES another +1.

I don't think it will allow you to move apps though...?

And I have noticed 1 minor issue with it - it comes with a bundled audio player. I use this to play podcasts as my phone is pretty small and doesn't have much internal storage so runs out of space pretty easy; hence I try not install too many apps. But the ES audio player seems to get confused by audio files over around 30mins in length - you can't use the audio slider to navigate past a certain point in longer podcasts.

This. Trumps every file explorer in features and usability. Trashed ES which is poor by comparison and has less than reliable root access.
