Hi everyone

I installed AVG for theft and antivirus protection, and while I get a message to say I'm protected from virus threats, when I attempt to use the "find" or "shout" functions to check the anti theft aspect is functional, nothing happens.

What do people recommend for this type of protection?

I bought Cerberus, cost under $10 and can use on up to 5 devices.

I can track it, wipe memory, take photo, read txt and all remotely

If you are rooted you can hide app and it would take a full wipe and reflash to take away any evidence of it.

Tried Prey but wasn't as effective.

Okay - thanks I'll take a look. Meantime I have set a password for screen log in which I assume must offer reasonable protection.

Is rooting the device very difficult? Iwas interested in doing it so I could reset camera shutter to on/off ( I think it was on/off, but to a button anyway).

Another option is avast!

Has good anti theft features and since the last update the Web Shield now supports Boat Browser and Boat Browser Mini.

what phone are you using, rooting is typically easy enough just a bit nerve wracking at first. Yes it is a basic lockout.

Cerberus is pretty good I just log into their website with log in and if my phone is on I can do what I like really. Also have on my tablet butr can only track it if on as no 3G

re rooting: Galaxy S2 ... in the past I have played a litttle with Linux so assume it's akin to that, but haven't been playing with Linux lately, and the distro I used most recently was GUI.

I used avast whit anti-theft but my phone run slow and I dropped antivirus.I use only anti-theft

I've realised I have little to lose other than the phone itself - which would be huge to me of course. But once it's gone there's not much apart from personal photos I think, and I'm on a pre-pay monthly so they couldn't rack up a huge data bill or anything.

Will still secure it though.
