Havign recently acquired an HTC One its stand out feature for me is the IR blaster, no more trying to locate the various remotes that the wife and kids have randomly misplaced throughout the house! What apps are people using with their IR blaster equipped tablets and phones at present?

I am currently using Smart Remote IR remote for HTC One which seems to do the job, haven't quite made friends with the heat pump yet but the home theatre is all go so thats the critical requirement.

Whilst its very functional ideally I would love somethign that lets you design and shape the buttons etc and widget support would be magic, is there anything out there that i have not discovered yet?

Now that is getting closer to my ideals bar the $60 price tag, it is times like this where in the windows phone store try before you buy option was worth its weight in gold!

Smart Remote is OK.

It's not a replacement for my Harmony remote by any stretch but is close.

It's not cheap either which is a shame.

cheaper version but haven't looked to see differances.

$58 is OTT for an app or maybe just used to getting useful app's for under $10

Was reading their support forum, they seem like a fairly proactive crowd who support their product well which is nice

They actually released a free beta version for HTC One back in May but have since pulled it and released official app, Im a bit late to take advantage of that unfortunately :(

$12 is not so bad but does it do anything (other than custom GUI) that smart IR remote doesn't do that is another question

I am quite happy with Smart IR Remote for HTC One. I took a punt early on and paid the $12. The developer was very responsive when I reported a bug with the IR learning function, a patch coming within a day. It has a macro function (unused as yet) and I have set up a couple of 'activities' similar to the harmony system, where I have combined different device functions on one interface. That and its learning ability make me think it was money well spent.
Messages from the developer would tend to indicate there is still some improvements to come, mainly with the interface.

Thanks for the run down, might have to give it a shot once we move into our place and I get the HT set up again.

Yes, Smart Remote covers of the basics nicely, I set up a couple of macros for single button push to power on and off MySky, TV and amp simultaneously, also set up a custom remote which covers basic tv function and key amp and MySky functions.

To setup devices is incredibly easy, technology has come a long way since the original learning remotes thats for sure

What woudl be nice though is to be able to select a remote as a full page widget so it is always just a slide away

It does have one widget associated with it, but it is very basic, just a grid of buttons. I agree the ability to set a remote as a full screen widget would be great. Might contact the dev and see what they think. Otherwise might see what can be achieved using Tasker.
