Just received:

Great news for Kiwi Android lovers.  If you’re in the market for a new mobile phone that’s easy on your wallet, the new Vodafone Smart Mini could be just what you’re looking for.

Launched today, the Smart Mini is the latest and most affordable addition to the Vodafone Smart line-up; a sleek, compact smartphone without any compromise on performance – for just $99.

Perfect for new smartphone users, the Smart Mini is a powerful mini handset designed to deliver the complete mobile experience – from simple messaging through to multimedia apps and sophisticated location-based services.

With features including a 3.5”touch screen display and 1GHz processor, the Smart Mini comes with Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system, a 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom and 4GB of expandable memory (with microSD cards).

Todd Hardie, Vodafone Head of Terminals, says the Smart Mini will bring a new wave of consumers to the smartphone world for the first time.

“The Smart Mini is the perfect phone for Kiwis wanting to see what Android is all about.  At just $99, it’s the best entry-level smartphone in the Vodafone range – but that doesn’t mean the phone’s potential is as small as its price tag.

“It’s full of powerful messaging features – including push email, Facebook integration and pre-loaded Twitter – while the easy access online app store brings a wealth of games, tools, social apps and entertainment to your fingertips.”

The Smart Mini is available exclusively from Vodafone priced at $99, and comes bundled with Prepay Smart Data SIM pack.  At the $99 price point, the Smart Mini is network locked for the first nine months of use – or can be unlocked for a one-off fee of $30.  After nine months, there is no charge to unlock the phone.  An unlocked version of the Smart Mini is available for $129.

Customers who purchase the Smart Mini will also enjoy the benefits of Data Angel, a service exclusive to Vodafone which enables smartphone users to control their data allowance.

Available in astro black from 1 July, Vodafone will also offer the Smart Mini in hot pink from mid July.

I guess I'm just old and crabby, but it's really starting to annoy me how storage is being referred to as "memory" these days.

Grumpy old man gripes aside, that looks like a decent phone for that price.

Good to see low end handsets getting decent (sounding) specs. A friend of mine had a cheap VF-branded Android that was painful to actually use on a daily basis.

This device is custom made by TCT Alcatel and is known as the VF875. CPU is a 1ghz single core Mediatek MT6575 with a PowerVR SGX531 GPU.
For anyone thinking about buying one of these, the locked version is being advertised at DSE for $88, and comes with a simpack preloaded with the $19 Combo and $6 NZBestmate, then the usual $10 credit for registering online.

Where did you see it advertised? Have you got a link? I didn't think DSE dealt with VF anymore?

Their stores have vodafone stands installed in them. It appears to be that they are getting vodafone back in and i had this confirmed. Haven't seen it online yet, but DSE's website is particularly bad ever since they got the new search.
