I know this type of device is not exactly popular or sort after, but I want one of these as play emulators on my nexus 7 is not the best experience without real controls, and the few games that can be streamed I have, so I could use this with my setup.
Has anyone here managed to import a Nvidia Shield without getting stung with GST and duty fees?
I have worked out will which add to the cost around $100. Basically the shipping added into the total cost at around $20-30 is enough to tip it over the $400 limit.
If there is a way to pay $299.99 US, and pay less than $20 at YouShop, which I don't think is possible, or so then it to close for comfort. eBay seem to be a waste of time, most Nvidia Shields are almost $400 Nzd, even worse is pb tech have a few but once shipping is added on it close to $700 which is just stupid and a waste at that.

If you're not worried about lying then use YouShop they ask you for the value of the package so just put 269.99 and you'll most likely get through customs without being stung regardless of shipping costs.
Works for me though don't push your luck!

Crazy that shipping incurs duty and GST (which is unfair somewhat), should be on just the product cost. Its not like you can take the shipping out of the box as a physical item and go wow that a nice piece of shipping. No one can change the rules.
I am concerned about is the price is altered, then if you get nabbed, then package likely be held with a huge fine to go with it?

Nah, they'll just hold on it, readjust the price and charge you according to the new price. No huge fines but I wouldn't recommend trying to ship thousands of dollars worth of equipment in a single package and saying it's only worth 269.99

lol, in the newegg comments its either a love it or hate it item. I think those that hate it didn't know what they want it for.

I would go with Newegg and paying by PayPal. They are quite reliable from my experience, no problems (apart from rejecting payments from my debit card since they figured out it wasn't from the USA)

Thanks, I went with Newegg before I read this, think my CC will bounce, as could not change billing address from my youshop address. I looked at paypal and forgot to use it instead duh. I seem to have been debit my card anyway, so would expect it to go through hopefully?
I have worked out I should be about 5 or 10 bucks under $400, so might not have to worry about the GST and duty, it will be tight. I did think about putting $249.99 to cover it better, would suck if it turns out a dollar over if the exchange rate changes from now and then, also I am guessing the box size as small.
Can't wait to get it, this thing is going to rule, if nothing goes wrong with the payment, I did try and look through the youshop thread, but could find anything new or conclusive?

Nope, Newegg is awful with boxes, it'll cost you an arm and a leg when it gets to YouShop since YouShop don't repackage if the package is filled with bubble wrap or those foam thingys. One thing I've noticed is that the YouShop label doesn't include the shopping cost. Also Newegg will take your money, then reject you and refund you within about an hour or so.

ouch that does not sound good, maybe I should go with one of the others, or maybe it doesn't matter who you go with in the end, you can never tell who will package it to what size anyway.
I haven't been rejected yet, well if I do at-least the refund will be quick, then I have simply paypal it (which I should of done in the first place, same result basically)

Yeah haven't tried the other ones. Maybe just the things I order require big boxes or maybe it's the fast shipping I choose. You can't really know the size of the package until it reaches You Shop. YouShop charge by volumetric weight or actual weight, which ever one is bigger, and you'll most likely never hit 6kg so you're better off stuffing a few things into one Newegg order and having the same shipping cost. I forked out $60 and received a giant package with only a graphics card in it. Still cheaper importing it though, by like $50 - $100 :-D

ok sound like you have deal with them before. A the moment it between 10pm and 2am in the usa. Order is showing Status: Order Verification - Your order has been successfully submitted. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged.
Wonder if it would be a good idea to cancel it (option is there) and re-order using paypal? Not sure if I be fully refunded, plus the exchange rate fee?

I was rejected using credit card and order cancelled. Although I reordered using PayPal, this time it went through in a matter of minutes, it now gone pretty much straight to packaging.
Although it does say under Order History for the new order, "Your order will not be processed if your shipping address does not match your PayPal confirmed address."
Almost everyone in New Zealand will have a a NZ comfirmed address. Have you had any problems with this?

I didn't have any problems since during the order in PayPal I changed my address to the YouShop address and I think you only need to have one verified address.

Awesome, should be on it way soon. Shipping from Newegg will be slow as I took the free shipping option, to cut the overall cost and if it added into the unit total price.
Looks like Nvidia might be putting the units into similar brown cardboard boxes (hopefully) of some laptop cartons, the battery warning kind of made me think this would be so http://pocketnow.com/2013/07/31/nvidia-shield-unboxing#!prettyPhoto

I keep this updated, as others here might want to grab a Nvidia shield with getting ripped off by NZ retailers. I would go with NZ retailer, but if they weren't so greedy with their pricing with is ridiculous.

Sorry for the delay in posting, now realise I was meant to update this post, and a had a couple of PM about it, so for those that were watching.

I got the Nvidia Shield from newegg, but had to use a paypal account, anything else will not do. Shipping was about $30, and at that time just scrapped through customs, although very tight. Delivery to the YouShop warehouse was about 3 days, and YouShop shipped it off within 24 hours providing you pay asap. Took about 6-7 days to get to my house.

I can tell ya, this thing is awesome, I haven't put it down since I have had it, my iPad and Nexus 7 are just sitting around, as this is everything (for me anyway) I have been looking for. The shield is super powerful, Nvidia are regularly updating it.

Providing you have a fast router, then streaming PC games in HD look awesome and the two front mounted speakers pump out good loud volume for what it is. Although I have to say trying to play Tomb Raider 2013, it was just a little bit to hard to see what I am aiming at, unless I pull the thing right up to my face.

Best thing and what I really most wanted it for is emulation, I am a big fan of that king of thing, and android it the only platform small and powerful enough to provide that, but without the tactical physical buttons its just way to hard to play on touch screens. Once you experience the Nvidia shield playing mame reloaded 0.139, you will be blown away how good everything looks, sounds, and feels, its just absolutely amazing and can play almost anything without slow downs. reloaded is optimised for the shield.

The screen is very nice, battery life is incredible, even just play a you tube clip is great, speakers are right where you want them to be, and cause its made to be in your hand, just as comfortable as holding a xbox controller.
