Its for a 10 year old. Will more than likely be used for mostly games and a bit of web txting (not paying his phone account just yet!)
Not too worried about screen size, high res small is ok, but would like sufficient power and ram to play games.

It would be for vf/2d. I dont mind parallel import, but if anyone knows of some hot labour weekend specials it would be appreciated!

Nokia 520 is a Windows phone. Check that the games you want are available for this OS.

I would be importing one direct for that price.

Something like this or this.

Don't get him a windows phone, he will be the laughing stock of the school.

Iphone 3gs on 1-day for around $189

Caveat only works on one network and may not be able to play modem games that require latest os

Other than that (c)would suit him pretty well

Kind of leaning towards a Huawei G510 for $239 or an LG L7 for $208

If he's looking at using it for games you will probably want at least a dual core CPU and a decent GPU. The Galaxy S3 mini is $279 at the warehouse, check pricespy as well, you might find it cheaper.

My son imported one like this for his wife.  It was all in Chinese and he had to hack it  a bit to get access to the Google Play Store.  Still full of Chinese stuff that he has no idea what it's for if it's even safe to remove it.  It also runs like a dog.

Can't have done his research then.

I've imported many now, for family and friends.

All arrive set to English, latest Android, full playstore access and run silky smooth.

Pop your simcard in and you're up and running within 2 minutes.

Of course I only buy quad core, 1 or 2GB ram and from a reputable seller.

In any case, OP has said he wants local so importing is not for him.
