Neither of my Nexus devices (N4 and N10) are able to receive files from my laptop runnning Win8.1. When I look at the Bluetooth setting for both devices, under Profiles, there is only a Media audio profile.
How do I get back the ability to send files from laptop to these devices or is this a problem with Win 8.1?

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I have issues with Windows BT support (especially in 8.1), however, it does support Bluetooth file transfer. I have my taskbar notification area set to show all icons. If I right click the BT icon it will come up with the 'Send file' menu, select the device and basically follow the wizard.

The only issue I have found is that many phones for some reason (IPhone for example) do not support the BT OBEX protocol without adding an app of some kind. If your device is greyed out in the send file menu, it could be that it is not able to receive a file. It seems phone vendors don't like to support communicating with other vendors phones which is a shame as I figure that is what phones were originally designed to do.

I see in the WinJS library that there is support for Wifi-Direct on windows 8.1, however, I am not sure how to use this as I could not find a related app. My IPhone doesn't support AirDrop and I don't think that works with non-IPhone devices either so I cant do any testing.

Peejayw, it's likely a driver incompatibility issue that will hopefully be rectified soon for you... My Samsung Ativ Book 9 Ultrabook had a few issues post W8.1 upgrade, i.e. Bluetooth stopped functioning along with a few other irritating Driver quirks... After stuffing around for hours trying to rollback drivers etc, Samsung eventually released updated drivers which sorted the issue immediately. Hope you get it sorted soon.
