And so much easier than others.

I have a Sygic lifetime license for AU/NZ. EVERY SINGLE TIME I INSTALL SYGIC IT WON'T RESTORE MY LICENSE. It shows "Trial expire in six days" and I have to run around uninstalling maps, app, installing things to get it gonig.

These features in particular (from the link above):

  • Offline navigation: Interactive maps and turn-by-turn voice guidance are still available even without an internet connection.
  • Maps to download and to use offline for nearly 100 countries.
  • Public transport maps and directions for over 800 cities in over 40 countries, also when you’re offline.

I'm more interested in it from a practical point of view, not a feature list written by a marketing department.

What are the likely costs?

i thought google already did most of this... offline maps, i have definitely used in the past..

Cant say i have tested much else though, data is there, why not just use it? - my approach to using maps anyway..

Like seeing the traffic updates and such that google seem reasonably accurate with too..

I guess its more get off the google fence with offline options sorta thing?

That marketing spiel is actually pretty much exactly what I liked about Here maps\drive when moving to WP from Android: The offline experience just seemed better. And I used the offline maps feature of google maps, and the navigation app, a fair bit before that on android. Granted, I now haven't used Android for a while so I'm sure things have improved since, and am also not sure how the Here maps app on Android compares to the one on WP.

Offline maps in Google is PAINFUL and unreliable. I've used Google Maps stored to the device when overseas to save data, but it's really hard to do and very hard to know exactly what is downloaded and what is not. I've also had offline maps 'expire' when the device was online and there being a small update somewhere in the map, and not realised until I went to use it offline.

You can do offline with Google Maps, but it's a bit opaque about it and a hassle too.

The option to have *truly* offline maps in a very transparent sense is very welcome for me.

Google offline is crap as I found out in china where there is no google without vpn and Internet is universally awful.

I'm installing now. Will still use Google Maps 90% of the time, but good to have a nice (Assumably free) offline map available on the device if/when I need it.
