First the Galaxy S6, now it looks pretty certain that the upcoming Xperia Z4 will be dropping the SD slot as a consequence of Sony shaving another 1mm of thickness.

I have the Z2 and an Xperia Z tablet and I love the ability to be able to swap an SD between devices.

I discounted the S6 earlier this week for their decision to drop the SD. It looks like I will have to accept my days of porting music and video between devices may fast be coming to an end.

(Yes the new M9 retains it ... but HTC Sense? No thanks).

My One M7 doesn't have an SD Card either and that was (gasp) two years since it was announced. I can't say I've really missed it. But then I only have 4 GB of music and very little video on it. I am looking at replacing it with the M9, but I would still be doing that even without the SD card. What I will use the SD for is as a lifeboat to store nandroid and Titanium backups.

As for Sense, if an SD is really that important then load an alternate launcher or a CM ROM.

instead of cutting down the thickness I would rather it a bit thicker to have bigger battery and SD card, why have the thinnest phone.

Like Dingbat I have been without SD card for a couple of years (M7 also) and it has not been a problem, i use cloud storage to back up contacts/photos/videos/documents etc and I have uploaded about 12,000 songs so far into Google Music.

I always have a bunch of music stored locally on the phone. swapping out music is so easy that i struggle to see the need to have gigs and gigs stored locally, I either create playlists from my desktop and sync to phone over WiFi or just pin/unpin albums direct from app again over WiFi

I wonder if this is the start of a trend that will see all flagships head down this route over the next while?

Wade I agree and think it is the end of those two things which I, and a lot of others, have grown used to. Like most things its about adapting and I'm prepared to do that to an extent. You are used to not having an SD card so obviously struggle with those of us that aren't used to it so bear with us as we go through withdrawal symptoms.

In a way I was lucky to have had to migrate from a 16GB +SD phone to a 32GB phone when 32gb cards where considered mainstream so overall it was quite indifferent, now with 64GB cards common and 128GB becoming mainstream the difference can be substantial

I am quite taken by the S6 and it will probably be my next phone, I keep coming across doom and gloom editorials on various websites and social media but really the 'weak' points of the S6 are being so over-hyped, it would seem it's own fan-base are in fact it's own worst enemies :P

Hey world you've finally got a phone that (hopefully) feels and looks like the flagship that it is, you've finally got some serious onboard storage options, you've got quick charge, low power usage by design, on top of some very serious hardware, its nothing but a win win

So does no no card slot make it even more waterproof. I am disappointed that the other 2015 flagships have eschewed anything greater than protection from light drizzle. HTC have even said they have a water resistant cover for the M9. I would rather the phone was instead of some massive cover.
I would assume that a fixed battery takes up less space than a removable one, but I have to agree, I would rather have a higher capacity battery than a super thin phone.

I read the S6 dropped the SD card, removeable battery and waterproofing

As long as the onboard storage options increase from the usual 16GB to at least 32GB but preferably 64GB then it won't phase me too much.

Options rapidly shrinking for me, since even 128gb of internal storage is not in keeping with my usage. M9 has a card slot, G Flex 2 also... What else? Perhaps LGs incoming G4?
