I haven't read any topic here about Stagefright, a vulnerability that in theory could affect up to 950 million devices in some estimates.

Here's a free Stagefright detector - read about the Stagefright vulnerability here.

My HTC M9 (Android 5.1) passes the test:

The HTC M8 (Android 5.0.1) fails:

What about your devices?

Nexus 5 on 5.1.1 (the latest). Failed 3/6 cry.

I thought there was an announcement a couple of days ago that they'd all be patched. Obviously not.

An update was released by Google. This needs to go to manufacturers, approval by telcos, release. It's going be weeks if not months - and for some handsets probably never.

Unless you see an OTA update as mentioned, then you don't have it.

The one I'm on failed too, 3/6.

Fragmentation. Yay. Note 3 failed. Already overdue for an update, which will probably still fail when it finally does get released.

You're right. I had just checked the version number, not the build number. Apparently the patched update is still 5.1.1, but a different build number - LMY48I. It's rolling out now. One more reason to be grateful for a plain vanilla android.

A couple of sites are suggesting to turn off auto retrieving MMS in your messaging app for security.
