Amazon has announced a line-up of new tablet devices:

The cheapest one starts at $49.99 - really good price.

"

  • Beautiful widescreen 10.1" HD display with over a million pixels (149 ppi / 1280 x 800)"    Not the best of resolutions for a new product introduction.

They are all really low res.

But @ $50, $99 and $230 they aren't going after the $1000 flagships are they?

The 7 inch could be a goer for a kid tablet should our 2013 Nexus 7 ever die.

Looked very impressive.
Only when I looked hard into the specifications did I notice they they all only have 1 GB of RAM. Probably not too much of a problem for most people. I would have expected at least 2GB. But a good deal none the less.

was just about to ask the same question.    Not much good to me if I can't access the Play store..

Edit.  Asked the question on the Amazon Forum

"No, Google wants to be the only app store on devices that their Google Play is installed on and have certain control over the OS and Amazon has their own app store and does not want to relinquish control of their devices"

Guess it will be a no no  ..

Mk 1 or Mk 2.  The Mk1s  2012 had problems  with the updates  but the Mk2 2013s seem to be OK..

Never buy anything with less than about 250ppi unless you hate yourself.

It is a really good price... if we didn't have such a weak NZ dollar.
