Hi all

My Nexus 7 has just died (even after a factory reset it just keeps on rebooting every 20 seconds) so I am looking for a cheap replacement - cheap being the operative word as I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment.

Main uses - evenings as eBook reader, watching Youtube and sports replays - and that's about it as I can use my phone (Moto G) when out and about, and my desktop for anything productive.

Any suggestions?  I'm happy to consider Chinese alternatives as I've had a good run with a Minix Neo X7 as a TV box and I know a bit about forums to look at to get reviews and feedback once I know what models to look at.  Equally if there is anything good value currently available locally then that would be great.

Thanks for your help

Lee

How cheap is cheap? The 2013 Nexus 7 tablets seem to going for about $150 on Trade Me (they're very good tablets - got 2 of them).

Quick question, you aren't keen on selling your broken Nexus 7 are you?  My daughter has broken the screen on hers in one corner.

If you get one, I'll throw you $20 for the charging board?

Thanks for responses so far - cheap is less than NZ$200.  My comparison point is that I can buy Nexus 2013 new in US for US$150 = NZ$230 + shipping.

I'm a bit wary about buying secondhand off Trademe and the pricepoint there seems to be circa $200 used.

I bought one off Amazon about a month ago. Cost $220 to my door from the USA in 3 days. Brilliant device. Brilliant service. I agree, not worth paying second hand Trademe prices. The exchange rate has moved in the last month though...

I would agree with that about 90%. The only problem I have had with my Nexus 7 is the failure of the sensor for auto-rotation. But once I did the fix which you can find on the Internet which involves taking off the back and placing additional padding on the back panel to press the electrical contacts against the battery, that was resolved.

Running Lollipop it runs smoothly and with no lags and I presume Marshmallow will make it even better?

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Just to let you know the outcome - I've ordered a new Nexus 2013 from Amazon (total cost NZ$250ish - USD exchange rate is officially crap), and the bricked one is on its way to to Jono to be used for spare parts.

Thanks to you all for your advice.

Thanks Lee much appreciated, hopefully sort out my daughters tablet this weekend.  Toejam I will let you know how I go and will message you about sending the charging board once I get the tablet and pull it apart.
