I see places dropping prices on the s6 like JB for $769 (even though they have no stock in Auckland and could be weeks before they do).

I assume this is because of the rumours of the s7 being released late January - Late February?

I look at these phones then I see something like the Zenfone 2 for half the price and wonder do I need a $1k phone.

if it's a need... buy, if it's a want... wait.

more of a want but the persons phones screen is a little busted but just viewable so they want a phone soonish. but have a work phone too.

how much will the s7 likely release rrp at?

will the s6 drop in price once s7 is released?

of the features its the weatherproofing the s6 lost that if the s7 has is a huge benefit.

i think they are going to use one of their finance no interest no repayment cards on the s6, but if the s7 is only $400 more new they would rather finance that.

im looking at cheap phones myself.

do they need a top of the line phone? 80% of people dont and just buy it for the status point :) could save yourself 50% and buy something cheaper that will still do eveything they need with out anything extra that they dont.

just depends on how they use their phone

yeah i agree.

i guess its hard because coming from windows phone which runs on minimal hardware its hard to guess what requirements are needed from an android. 1GB multi tasks a lot of apps in windows 8.1 but i doubt its going to in android, but thats just a case of closing some. will 1GB multi task 2 apps?

even the samsung J2 seems smooth on reviews but they dont have a lot of stuff open.

then i looked at the asus zenfone which is a beast in specs and is half the price of the s6.

i think what drew her to the s6 is the camera, so they dont have to carry around the pocket camera (rx100) everywhere as it is actually a really good camera. but as i said it has no zoom. so everything is a compromise.

definitely not a status symbol, just want a phone that doesnt chug and freeze etc. the J2 is $130 and is a 1.3GHZ quad core. if it doesnt chug she could keep the camera and get access to more apps than with MS. no matter how good a platform it is, they are killing it with no apple like advertising. nobody even no MS phones exist now that nokia dont produce them (under their name) and I doubt if MS doesnt start promoting what is a technological marvel ie contunuim, cortana, windows 10 etc it will never get the apps people actually use. MS should have just bought the iphone instead of nokia win 10 phone ;-p

If you have any interest in VR, then wait for the S7. It should be awesome.

what is VR? the mrs asked and i was like, ummm no idea. i know its virtual reality, but why with phones, is it games or something else?

she decided to wait.

still would like to know how much the s6 would drop by on release of s7. you look at the s5 now and its half the price of the s6 but thats a whole year after the s6 release.

I'm prepared to bet $10 now that the new S7 will NOT have SD Cards, nor any form of waterproofing. Also exceptionally unlikely USB C.

The phone displays two images - left and right - and you put the phone into a VR headset and - voila - you have a 3D image. But the gyro in the phone means it can detect how your head moves.....so you can stand there with the headset on and turn 360 degrees and the an image or video through the whole 360 degrees - like you're standing there.

If the source had multiple cameras, the view - all around you - will be in full 3D.  The phone is the "computer" ...and the headset is just as way of viewing what is being displayed. The Samsung Gear VR is a good, cheap option ($199 incl GST at PB Tech - maybe cheaper elsewhere). It has sensors so it knows when you're wearing and when you're not. You can control the focus and the volume via the headset. There is a simple control pad on the right side for scrolling L/R or U/D or selecting. There is a back button. Samsung is integrated with the Oculus Store...and there is a growing number of apps / games / video / image sources in the Store. It's pretty cool. You can also view VR content from other sources. The Gear VR will also work with Google Cardboard if you disable the Gear service in the phone with the Package Disabler Pro app (Play Store). You can re-enable it any time. It's just a click on / off thing in the Package Disabler Pro app.

For another $139 you can get a 100% compatible SteelSeries gamepad for Android (Bluetooth)  - I got mine at Mighty Ape - that works with the SGS6 / Note5 / assume SGS7 phone and the Gear VR. makes gaming much easier that trying to use the control pad on the side of your headset while you're moving your head all over looking at everything around you. :-)

Its one of those things one doesn't know about until you try it.....and then....."WOW!".

Wait till the phone comes out then and you may be surprised. Saying this based on the information coming from a very reliable source who is normally not wrong.

Samsung seem to have a very dependable pattern, the S6 will drop $2~300 further within a couple of months after the S7 release

water proof and sd card support seem like upgrades that are worth the wait.
