Just thought I'd kick off a thread about the Lenovo P2 to see if there are any other owners out there (and possibly promote a few more). It's been officialy released in the UK, so it's not just confined to SE Asia, this model.

I purchased from Superbuy (Malaysia), for around $400 NZD landed. Took 10 days to get here, which is pretty good from that part of the world. Wherever you buy from, make sure you get the p2a42 variant, which is the global hardware version, and - importantly for Aus/NZ - has Band 28 support (700Mhz) for 4G LTE.

It's a heck of a lot of phone for the money and ticks a lot of boxes: 5.5" AMOLED (1920x1080), 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, pretty good 13MP camera, all aluminium body, Gorilla Glass 3, front fingerprint sensor, dual SIM (shared slot or single SIM w/SD card to 128GB), NFC, fast charging, and 5100mAh battery. At the end of a full day of use (I'm a fairly light user) there's still about 80% battery left.

Surprisingly good speaker too. It's still using the older micro-USB for charging instead of USB-C, which could be good or bad depending on your current cable setup. No weather or water proofing.

Being a Snapdragon 625, it's plenty fast enough and there's already good custom ROM support - although you do need to wait 14 days after asking Lenovo to unlock the bootloader.

Finally, if you're a dinosaur like me and still use FM radio, in contrast to the latest flagships, you can still listen to your RNZ National for free :)

EDIT: A standard disclaimer since it's not released in NZ is that you have no local support / CGA backup. And if your dog eats it or your kids drop it, local repair and parts are likely to be challenging.

For NZ 400 that is exceptional. What are Lenovo like with o/s updates?

Out of the box, it updated itself OTA from Marshmallow to Nougat. So far so good and easy. Overall, I'm not sure Lenovo has the best reputation for OTA updates in terms of frequency and longievity, but that's just from what I've read - and perhaps they're trying to improve these days.

Of course if you unlock the bootloader you don't get any more OTA updates, but then you can custom ROM it.

What a great find. That CPU is known for being very good for battery life.
Might get one of these for my mother.

With the power efficient AMOLED (turns off pixels not in use), the power sipping SD 625 and 5100mAh under the hood, battery anxiety is a thing of the past. And then there's fast charging in case you do get low.

Very straight forward from Superbuy. NZ credit card accepted. Good comms and package tracking vis DHL, and the phone arrived at my door 10 days later. Very happy.

Heya, just got mine today from Superbuy. Arrived in like 3 days!! So impressed.

Now as for the OTA, when I try to system update I get an error 'Network connection failed. Please try again.' Which is weird because my wifi, internet etc is fine. I've tried multiple times now...

Any ideas?

I got mine from Superbuy in Malaysia. Took 9 days from ordering to my doorstep, and can confirm it's the p2a42 variant with band 28 (4G LTE 700Mhz).
