Hi,

I've got a Nokia 8, everything is going great except Microsoft Edge isn't in the New Zealand Play Store. Anyone from Microsoft illuminate why that isn't the case? or is it the fact that Microsoft Edge was only launched in US English and I have my Android phone set up as something else?

bradstewart: Can you access it from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.emmx

The problem is that it says my device (Nokia 8) isn't compatible on the Google Play website (when accessed via my browser on my computer) and on the Google Play application (on the phone itself) that the application isn't available for my country. I find it pretty hard to believe that a Nokia 8 isn't compatible enough to run Microsoft Edge.

That's weird. It installs just fine on my S8.

In a fit of optimism I've fired off a email to the Microsoft development team - I won't hold my breath but worse case I might need to side load, something that should be avoidable if Microsoft got their act together.

Btw, just out of curiosity, what language did you select when you set up your S8?

English UK. The language shouldn't affect it. Play store restrictions are by OS version, country or device though.

Have a look on APK mirror for the latest APK to sideload.

I'm on Android Oreo (8.0), I'm in New Zealand, my language is UK - I'm wondering whether there is a block on it because I'm on Oreo.

Btw, how do you opt in for the beta version? maybe that'll work given the latest beta has noted that the target is 8.0 according to a apk mirror I was looking at.

Try that. It might be Oreo, I just noticed I can't actually find it on my S8 when I search. It's just listed in my library. Also on Oreo now, used to work fine on Nougat.

Do you have someone with a device that shows it as available/compatible? If so get them to download it and then download "Send Anywhere" onto both devices and then send the app to the Nokia 8 via Send Anywhere. I've use this method quite a bit for apps that don't show up in APK Pure or similar.

While Edge seems to have some unique features unless you need really these I'd recommend Opera broswer. For my money it is the gold standard mobile browser. You can sync favourites and bookmarks across devices, inluding desktops/laptops, download pages for offline viewing, use private mode etc etc.

I did something sneaky to get it working; I pulled out my sim, reset it, I then created a Google account via a VPN to the United States but I used my NZ mobile phone for confirmation. Long story short, I now have edge on my phone.

Just a follow up - I loaded on Opera VPN, set the end point to the United States, and I cleared data/cache from the Play Store, I then opened it up and I can install Cortana etc. without any problems. Not the most ideal scenario but it works which is the important part. Side note: learned something interesting about Wordpress domains, mail forwading, and the consumer outlook.com in the form of aliases - saved a few bucks by not having to pay for hosting plus a free loaded on an family Office 365 subscription.

Just a follow up, I gave it a go, I really did but god knows Microsoft doesn't seem to want people to use Edge let alone their services given what a horror story it is. Moved to Gmail, went all Google and got chrome on my laptop and mobile phone. Yes, I'll trade 1-2 hours of battery life for sanity gained.

It's a regional release plan last time I looked. Don't know currently.

The official page says enter your email or SMS to get a download link:

This works... but talk about making in harder than it needs to be
