I am wanting  tablet software that only allows a handful of apps to run, and controls what time which apps can be accessed.

It's for a preschooler, so needs to be really dumbed down/bulletproof on the device end, but controllable/monitorable remotely.

I understand that the OS has some level of parental control, but I want to build schedules and do some customisations (like a sound a countdown before it gets locked out etc)

Anyone gone down this road and found a good solution?

We had a Kurio tablet for my son and it was perfect. Maybe the same software is available as a download?

Android has the benefit of user switching so you double tap the power button to swap to the parent user where you set the controls on other child accounts.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Fire tablet kids edition is really good for this. We've had this for a few years now for our kids. There is a simplified UI and you can set times it can be used and limit access to apps.

The downside is the kid wont have access to sideloaded apps, only ones from Amazon's store.

First app on my list I checked

Please note: Not compatible with Amazon Fire tablets. For an optimal experience, we recommend using a desktop or tablet device rather than mobile.

I use Google Family to manage our Galaxy Tab for the kids. It restricts apps, allows you to set time limits/bed times etc, provides management and reporting functions through the Family Link app on my phone (the 'find device' function has saved our bacon a few times).

Have a look here: https://families.google.com/familylink/

I also like it because it's free...
