Bought one of these over the weekend to replace my Redmi Note 7.  So far fantastic phone.  Quick (as all new phones should be!), no where near the amount of annoying advert crap the 7 came with.  Im using it on Kogan Mobile.

Battery life seems very good so far - Ive used around 15-18% for the day so far so it makes it better battery wise than my previous phone.  Normally I charge to 80% and my old one will be down to around 35-40% by the end of the day with reasonable usage (well what I consider reasonable!).

Found out I have 5G in my area.  So naturally I decided why not waste my data and see how it goes!

Not too shabby.  Tried 5G / 4G / Wireless.  The wireless was a little slower than I was expecting for gigabit fibre but oh well. Gets full speed on everything else!

VoLTE doesnt work but Im guessing thats really not a big issue.  No idea if thats a Vodafone issue / Kogan issue or a phone issue.  Its enabled but drops back to 3G when making calls.

Only other thing I dont like a whole heap is the colour.  "Nightfall Black" is not overly black.  But still its all good.  Plus they are definitely a bulkier phone than the Note 7 was.

VoLTE not working is because the phone really isn't supported on the Vodafone network so it's a "your mileage will vary" if it will suddenly start working or not and if it does, does it actually work?. Do not see anything on XDA about root + VoLTE. So if you venture into a RCG site you're not gonna be able to call.

VoLTE is in testing for NZ. You can manually enable it by dialing *#*#VOLTE#*#* if you would like to give it a try. Works well on Spark and Vodafone.

Looking at purchasing one of theses phones, but a review of it on PB Techs site suggests the video quality when watching streamed content isn’t the best, the review has the following point

“Poorer video quality during streaming. For a phone with 2340x1080 resolution, streamed video quality is worse than my old Huawei which only has 1920x1080.
It has better display for still pictures or videos saved in the phone, but for streaming, there is noticeable blurring even with videos of 1080p resolution.
Colors are a bit more dark/saturated too compared to my 4 other devices (people appear sunburnt! Maybe that's why it's called REDmi), and no amount of tweaking settings could improve this.
Very disappointing for me who watches a lot of videos online.”

Have you experienced this issue, Could this be a faulty phone / incorrect settings applied maybe.

Possibly doesn't have widevine l1 support? Meaning Netflix etc would only stream in 720p (or is it lower?)

Dumb question - how does one “dial” letters like in the above instruction? Does this apply across all VOLTE-ready phones or just Xiaomis? Asking as I’ve never managed to get VOLTE working on my phone (S10+).

You can dail those numbers on any phone, just copy and paste, the phone will report with carrier volte check enable or disable, repeated will toggle it

Thanks, I had tried that but no luck. Copy the text into diaper, press dial and... Nothing. It shows a call bring made, says conditional call forwarding active, then the call ends.

I'd have assumed it'll have come up with the info you mentioned on the screen - I wonder why mine is trying to treat it as a call? Could this also be why I've never managed to get VOLTE working on my phone, perhaps. Thanks for the tips!

widevine support? Not all, some have (particularly the global ones). Sometimes they enable it later via software update.

For VoLTE your want to see carrier check disabled after dialling
*#*#86583#*#*

Then give the phone a reboot and then enable it in settings (from my exp).

For clarity, the *#*#VOLTE#*#* (*#*#86583#*#* - good old T9) dialer code is Xiaomi-specific and will not work on your Galaxy S10+.

For Samsung, the trick for VoLTE support in NZ is "have a recent model" and "be running NZ software". If your S10+ is not originally from NZ, YMMV. If it was purchased NZ-new, best to contact Samsung directly.

Thanks, that's good to have clarified!

Yep, NZ model (2D variant from JB Hifi) running the latest OS, VOLTE enabled... Kogan Mobile checked things were set up correctly their end, so I guess trying Samsung is worth it, though the times I've contacted their help desk in the past it's been a frustrating experience!

Personal experience from an S20+. This should just work out of the box(insert sim) no questions asked, no messing around.

Alternatively you could flash the Vodafone NZ specific CSC firmware via odin https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s10-plus/firmware/SM-G975F/VNZ/download/G975FXXSBFUF3/1563801/ Here's the latest running VFNZ CSC. I have NO idea how Odin works these days but this is a method you can try.
