I have a Vodafone (UK) HTC Magic (Android) handset. That I was using on with a Vodafone NZ with no problems at all. However I got a 2Degrees sim card, and after setting up the various APNs I now have Internet access, but I'm unable to send an MMS . Which is a bit annoying to say the least.

I spoke to 2Degrees and they say the reason it wont is pecause the phone firmware itself restricets the MMS sending to Vodafone UK network or "allied " networks elsewhere. Hence why it worked before was cos Vodafone NZ is "allied" with Vodafone UK.

Does anyone know how to get around this ? (without re-flashing the firmware would be best) but if it has to be, then where do i get a decent firmware image to use ?

I'd be interested to find the correct settings as well. I can receive MMS OK but sending never seems to go anywhere. Have a parallel imported HK magic.

Settings I'm using
Name 2degrees MMS
apn mms
proxy 118.148.1.118
port 8080

mmsc http://mms.2degressmobile.net.nz:48090
mms proxy 118.148.1.118
mms port 8080

Not sure if the Magic is similair to the Hero on this point, have you made sure that when you set up the MMS APN that you set the APN Type to "MMS"? Its the last setting in the list.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Yeah I have all those settings and the type sety to mms. The MCC is set to '530' and MNC set to '24' . @degrees themselves seem to think the handset firmware is restricting the mms sending to Vodafone UK (or it's allied networks overseas). And maybe that i have to flash an 'open' version of the firmware, which is a fair old step to take, so i'd rather not if i can help it !

Currently what happens is i try and send the MMS and I can see the 'E' on the status bar attemt to send something , intermittantly, not like a full data connection going out. then after an hour or so i get the 'mms failed' notification.
