Hi, got my Magic today, cool machine, but its still on 1.5, how do you get the OTA upgrade to 1.6, when I go into setting and software version it says its up todate.

Cheers

63 views and no one has any ideas. Been given the run around by both HTC and Vodafone, both point fingers at the other.

Hi John, interesting, they (HTC) clearly stated today that it was not there lookout and to speak to Voda or Google.

Anyhow here is hoping it will magically sort it self.

Cheers

Where did you get it from? My phone auto updated over the air, which I think vodafone was responsable for, but if you didn't get it from them, it might be a different story.

I bought a magic last week and system updates refused to find the 1.6 update.

Magically *heh* 2 days later I got a popup message saying there was a new update.. it just seems to happen by itself and takes time to register with a system somewhere, which in turn tells it to update

Thanks for that, have got now where with HTC on this matter. So will wait and hopefully like you it will arrive. Have to say that having a smart phone again (used to have ipaq h6300) with decent email on board is such a boon to daily work life. The chat is good to, I work with a couple of lead clients who normally mix email with talk, this thing makes it just a breeze, who needs a PC anymore!

This seems to work, Cyril, if you phone has not been rooted. You do not say where you bought the phone.

mportant note: Developer, non-T-Mobile software versions and rooted devices cannot receive the Over The Air (OTA) update.

  1. Go to the homescreen.

  2. Tap on Dialer - to open the dialer screen.

  3. From the dialer type *#*#checkin#*#*   (that is *#*#2432546#*#*

  4. If the ‘checkin' is successful, the device will display "checkin result success"
       Note
: Checkin results may take up to 12 hours to display

  5. Return to the homescreen.

  6. Press the Menu key.

  7. Select Settings.

  8. Scroll down, and select About phone.

  9. Select System updates.

  10. If an update is available, you should see the update downloading.

  11. When the download is complete, you will be prompted to Install (now or later)

If you never get the update, you have other options. There are some excellent custom ROMs out there that run faster and have more functionality than the standard Android.

Cyanogen Mod, Soulife and Dwang are three very good ones I've tried myself. If you can't get your phone upgraded officially, you don't have to leave it at that.

Cyanogen Mod even has "CM Updater" an Over the Air, on demand, update app.
