Anyone interested in an Android User Group? Might be helpful to get together in person or online  and demonstrate in person or via webcam how to backup / restore / flash android ROMs / wifi tether - whatever - on and off our phones. :-)

Or maybe we could just make YouTube videos (or find ones already made) and share the wealth.

Sounds like an idea. Google Wave should be an ideal way to handle that if only I could figure it out :-)

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Google Wave. Good idea! Might already be some waves out there. I'll have a look on YouTube, to.

Ryan: I already have Google Wave, so I won't need one. Thanks very much, Ryan. :-)

Steveo: I was terrified, too.....so bought a second HTC Magic on TradeMe as a sandpit phone. In the end, it's really easy and you can restore the phone back the way it was in 5-10 minutes provided you took a backup of the original load and kept in a safe place. :-) I've root both phones now, but have the original loads safely stored in multiple copies.

Why bother with Google Wave? Why can't be done here? Unless you are expecting to add file sharing...

Android ROMS are usually in the 70-80MB range, so sharing them might be a bit impractical regardless of the forum.

Flashing ROMs is reasonably idiotproof given the right instructions, the only difficult part is if you have a unit with the security holes fixed which you then need to trick into thinking it's a development unit so you can downgrade the firmware. That's a pain, but still a piece of cake really if the instructions are followed carefully.

Beyond that, discussing interesting apps people have found might be useful. (Handsent, Locale, 3GWatchdog, Dolpin & Twidroid are all semi-essentials).

True.  If we were to share files, do you allow links to file hosting sites such as rapidshare?

having it here makes sense though, may be mods can pin instructions and FAQ, be a first lol, as winmo forum is pretty clean and straight.

Mauricio: You're right. Geekzone is an excellent place to tie it all together. Other tools will be useful, but GZ can easily be home base.

:-)
