I have just got a parallel imported HTC Hero, and while I have managed to successfully get the thing working and connecting to the web via wifi and GPRS (is that the correct acronym?) I now want to download some apps from the Android Market but there is no shortcut on the phone that I can find to get to it. (User manual says there should be one HOME>Apps>Market). I set up a google account when I first booted the phone, but now when I try to log into my account all I get is a blank screen. I don't know if the two are related. I found a thread that talked about a factory reset but that didn't seem to make any difference.
Any assistance appreciated.
EDIT: It would appear that a shortcut called "slideME" is what is on this phone for downloading apps. Anyone have any comments on this site? And can I still get APKs that I have downloaded to my PC (from Android Market) on to my phone?
EDIT2: While I'm in a questioning frame of mind, My phone seems to connect using HSPA according to the screen icons - is it just because the 3G signal is not the best or do I need to revisit my APN settings (currently direct.vodafone.com) I am on prepay plus BBLite.
Edit3: Told you I was a noob! Can anyone confirm that HSPA is actually a 3G mode?

Close Out Edit: It would appear that Market only comes packaged with SOME Heroes depending on where in the world they are sold (manufacturer must pay a tariff to Google). The replacement installed is slideME and I also found Getjay. All because I was looking for a video player. If google seriously wants to compete with Apple as far as apps go they will have to do a lot better.
